(Minghui.org) A defense lawyer received three rounds of applause from spectators when he condemned former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for undermining law enforcement and initiating the persecution of Falun Gong.

Reached by Voice of America days after the hearing, Mr. Zhang Zanning, a well-known lawyer and a professor at Southeast University, confirmed the audience's positive reaction during the trial of his client Mr. Wu Hongwei on November 27, 2015.

“The spectators applauded in agreement each time I reiterated that Jiang is the one that is guilty,” said Mr. Zhang to the VOA reporter.

During the November trial, Professor Zhang first pointed out the People's Congress, China's law-making body, has never enacted any law to criminalize Falun Gong. As such, Jiang broke the law when he singlehandedly launched the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999.

“The '610 Office' created by the former Chinese dictator to carry out the persecution of Falun Gong is an extralegal organization that overrides China's judicial system,” Professor Zhang next emphasized. In his words, “Lacking legal basis, the '610 Office' should have long been disbanded.”

He exposed a fatal flaw in the sufficiency of the bill of indictment. The public prosecutor failed to specify a particular law in the indictment that his client had allegedly broken. As such, the charges against Mr. Wu were invalid.

Professor Zhang demanded acquittal of his client, as Mr. Wu broke no law and Jiang is the one that has undermined law enforcement.

Mr. Wu has been released on bail at the time of writing. Prior to his latest arrest on August 6, 2015 for distributing information about Falun Gong, he was once given two years of forced labor in 2000.
