(Minghui.org) A vocational school teacher in Chifeng City has been detained for more than one year for talking to his students about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

One police officer admitted, “The last thing I want to do is deal with Falun Gong practitioners. We can neither sentence you to prison nor set you free.”

When Mr. Ran Chongdong was arrested in June 2015, a lot of his colleagues expressed disapproval, as he had done nothing wrong by exercising his constitutional right to freedom of belief and freedom of speech.

The police released Mr. Ran on bail shortly after his arrest, only to take him back into custody weeks later.

The local procuratorate moved to formally approve his arrest, but the police have failed to produce sufficient evidence to charge him, as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong, and Mr. Ran’s efforts to tell people about the spiritual discipline caused no harm to anyone.

The police, however, dared not release Mr. Ran because of pressure from the 610 Office, an extra-legal agency tasked with eradicating Falun Gong and given power to override China’s judicial system.
