Belgium: Protest in front of Chinese Embassy Calls for End to Persecution
(Minghui.org) The Chinese embassy is on one side of the Avenue de Tervueren in Brussels. On July 20, 2018, on the other side of Avenue de Tervueren was a row of Falun Gong practitioners in yellow T-shirts, peacefully protesting the 19-year-long persecution of Falun Gong in China. Some practitioners were doing the Falun Gong exercises together; some were talking to passersby about the persecution taking place in China. Passing motorists honked to express their support for Falun Gong.
It is not uncommon for protests in front of the Chinese embassy in Brussels to involve yelling and policemen reinforcing fences. However, today, during the Falun Gong practitioners' protest, the police were sitting in a police car and didn't feel the need to intervene.
“This protest is not against China, the Chinese people, or staff members in the embassy,” said Nick, representative of the local Falun Dafa (another name for Falun Gong) Association. “We are here to protest the persecution of Falun Gong in China. It was initiated by the former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Jiang Zemin in 1999. It is still going on today.
“We hope that the embassy staff members can think about this: if the CCP says that Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is bad, then what is good? We hope the staff members can make their own judgments and choices.”
Support for Falun Gong in Brussels
Falun Gong practitioners collected signatures in the Brussels city center, calling for the end of the persecution in China. Many people signed the petition upon learning about the human rights violations in China.
