(Minghui.org) A native of Inner Mongolia was recently sentenced to one year in prison for raising awareness of the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Ms. Zhang Libin was talking to people about Falun Gong in Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province on October 19, 2017 when she was reported to police by Huang Liyan, Party Secretary of the Hongling Community Office, and her staff member, Zhang Hui (no relation to Ms. Zhang).

Agents from the Mohuadian Police Station arrived to arrest Ms. Zhang. They beat her so badly during the arrest that her arms, back, and legs were injured.

Ms. Zhang's ordeal continued after she was sent to the Chaoyang City Women's Lockup later that day. Deputy director Gao Yaru knocked her teeth out, causing her mouth to bleed profusely. Her eyesight and hearing were also damaged due to Gao's brutal beatings.

Ms. Zhang was moved to the Chaoyang City Detention Center fifteen days later when her administrative detention was escalated to criminal detention. She refused to give up her belief and was placed in solitary confinement.

The Lingyuan City Court held a hearing in Chaoyang City on June 28, 2018. Ms. Zhang's lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her, as no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong.

Ms. Zhang's family learned on July 25 that she had been sentenced to one year in prison.
