(Minghui.org) Mr. Huang Dong'an, a Falun Gong practitioner in Jiangxi Province, was arrested last year after he handed out a DVD containing information about Falun Gong. Recently, news came that he was sentenced to an 18-month prison term in early November 2018 and had been sent to Nanchang Prison.

Mr. Huang, 51, lives in Nanchang City and is responsible for corporate finance at work. Because of good work ethics and performance, he earned the respect from coworkers. At home, he is the main source of income for the family and has been taking care of his disabled brother for many years.

Mr. Huang attributed his loyalty to his family and his work ethics to Falun Gong, a mind-body practice based on five sets of exercises and the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Since July 1999, the practice has been slandered and severely suppressed by the Chinese Communist Party. A large number of practitioners have been arrested, detained, and tortured for their belief.

To help people break away from the defamatory propaganda, Mr. Huang distributed a copy of a DVD with Falun Gong information on June 25, 2018, while he was on a business trip in Ji'an City, about 125 miles from his hometown. Ji'an police arrested him and kept him at the Yongfeng Detention Center. They traveled to Nanchang City the following day to ransack his home.

Li Junyang from Ji'an Police Department fabricated evidence against Mr. Huang and forwarded his case to the Yongfeng Procuratorate. When other Falun Gong practitioners urged Zhang Genping, Prosecution Unit Manager, to not mistreat innocent practitioners, Zhang dismissed them, saying that 35 DVDs had been found at Mr. Huang's residence.

“Even if he has only one DVD [connected with Falun Gong], he would be sentenced,” remarked Zhang. He also mentioned Mr. Huang's previous prison term. Between 2001 and 2006, Mr. Huang served five years in Yuzhang Prison for his belief. He was beaten, sometimes with wrenches, on a regular basis and had chronic bloody stools as a result.

Zhang said that, by law, repeat offenders are subject to more severe punishment than first-time offenders only if the re-offense happens within five years of completing their previous term of imprisonment. He then claimed, however, that Falun Gong practitioners are exceptions and the fact that Mr. Huang was imprisoned in the past was enough to earn him harsher punishment even though he finished serving his last term more than 12 years ago.

“If I do not charge him, I could face consequences,” he said.

A trial was held in Yongfeng Court on October 22, 2018, but no verdict was reached. He was sentenced in November 2018.
