(Minghui.org) More than 30 Falun Gong practitioners, including several families, in Changchun City and other areas in Jilin Province were arrested in August 2019.

At least 15 practitioners are still detained and facing indictment after their arrests were approved.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

The police monitored the practitioners’ daily activities through their phones, the Internet, and surveillance cameras for months before carrying out the arrests.

Ten Members of An Extended Family Terrorized by Police, One Still Detained

Mr. Han Jianping and his wife Ms. Sun Yanxia are Falun Gong practitioners from Nong'an County, Jilin Province. They were living in their daughter Han Xue's home in Changchun City during the summer of 2019.

Their niece Ms. Gao Hongyu's family of three stayed overnight in Ms. Han Xue's home on August 14, 2019.

Mr. Han went to a market early on the morning of August 15, 2019, while Ms. Han Xue's husband and Ms. Gao's husband left home later to get breakfast. When the two younger men walked out of the apartment building, several plainclothes officers seized them, pushed them into an unmarked car, and cuffed their hands behind their backs.

The police claimed to be from the Lishu County Police Department, but they did not show their badges.

Several police officers knocked on the door of Ms. Han Xue's home at around 7:30 a.m. Over a dozen officers rushed in, all in plainclothes, when she opened the door. Two of them briefly showed their badges and told her that they were from the Lishu County Police Department.

Ms. Sun, Ms. Han Xue, and Ms. Gao were forced to stay in the family room. Ms. Han Xue's 9-year-old daughter and Ms. Gao's 8-year-old son were taken to one of the bedrooms. Police then ransacked the entire home. In the meantime, the police questioned Ms. Han Xue about her family and Ms. Gao.

Later, at least ten more police officers arrived. They were from the Guojiadian Police Station and Yushutai Police Station.

Ms. Han Xue's younger sister, Ms. Han Shuang, came after 8:00 a.m. with her two-year-old son. The police immediately surrounded her and held her and her son in one room. They tried to unlock her phone to lure her husband to come. Ms. Han Shuang's son was so scared that he could not stop crying.

Ms. Sun began to feel sick after 9:00 a.m. Ms. Han Xue tried to take care of her mother but a female police officer slapped her in the face. The police asked the doctor, who had come with them, to check Ms. Sun. After the doctor said that Ms. Sun was not seriously ill, the police ignored her condition even though she felt very bad.

The police brought Ms. Han Xue into the dining room and tried to force her to give them the address of her parents’ home. When Ms. Han Xue refused, they even tried to beat her up but stopped after she strongly protested.

Mr. Han Jianping came back home after 10:00 a.m. and he was immediately seized once he stepped inside. They took away his keys and the money in his pocket and handcuffed his hands behind his back.

The police then turned to Ms. Han Xue's 9-year-old daughter. They deceived and threatened her, coercing her into telling them the address of her grandparents. The girl was afraid of the police hurting her mother and revealed the address. The police tried to sneakingly take her to the car to go to her grandparent's home. But her aunt, Ms. Han Shuang, saw it and cried out to stop them. Ms. Han Xue heard the commotion and was so upset and worried that she began to quarrel with the police. They handcuffed her and had to bring her daughter back into the home.

The police took Mr. Han to his own home. They ransacked the place and confiscated many personal belongings. Mr. Han was taken to the Siping City Police Department afterward.

After Mr. Han was taken away, the police confiscated many things from Ms. Han Xue's home. When they were about to leave at around 1:00 p.m., they tried to take Ms. Sun away even though she was still very weak. Ms. Han Xue and Ms. Gao attempted to block them but the police pulled them to the police car first. Then Ms. Sun was dragged out. The three women were taken to the Siping City Police Department.

The husbands of Ms. Han Xue and Ms. Gao were released from the police car at around the same time, after being detained for five hours.

Ms. Sun and her daughter, Ms. Han Xue, were interrogated separately in the basement. Despite Ms. Sun being sick, she was handcuffed to the chair and interrogated.

Ms. Sun, Ms. Han Xue, and Ms. Gao were sent to the Siping City Detention Center that night. Ms. Gao, who is not a Falun Gong practitioner, was released after she signed a guarantee letter.

Ms. Han Xue had a bad headache on August 18. She vomited several times in the morning and looked pale. She was taken to the hospital for a check-up and then returned to the detention center. She was detained until August 30 despite her health problem. The police told her that she was being detained because she published an article on the Minghui.org website which exposed the persecution of her parents, even though she doesn’t practice Falun Gong herself.

Ms. Sun was later released after her condition deteriorated.

Nine People from Four Related Families Arrested

Mr. Meng Xiangqi, 34, and his wife Ms. Yu Jianping are Falun Gong practitioners from Siping City. Many relatives in their extended families practice Falun Gong.

More than 20 police officers broke into Mr. Meng's home at 7:40 a.m. on August 15. They arrested Mr. Meng and his parents-in-laws, Mr. Yao Deyi and Ms. Fu Guihua, who are both practitioners, who were living with them at the time.

Ms. Yu Jianping and her three-month-old baby were left at home alone.

The police also broke into Mr. Wang Kemin's home earlier in the day, at around 4:00 a.m. They arrested him and his wife Ms. Wang Fengzhi. Their son Mr. Wang Dongji and daughter-in-law Ms. Yu Jianli (Ms. Yu Jianping's sister) were at their home and were also arrested – all four are Falun Gong practitioners.

The police ransacked the place and left after 8:00 a.m. Mr. Wang Dongji and Ms. Yu Jianli's home in Changchun City was searched as well.

Mr. Meng's mother Ms. Wang Guizhen was arrested at home the same day, and his father Mr. Meng Fanjun was arrested at his workplace.

Because Mr. Meng Xiangqi refused to renounce Falun Gong, the police found his wife Ms. Yu Jianping and told her to persuade him. Ms. Yu refused.

Two In-laws Arrested

Early on the morning of August 15, 15 plainclothes officers broke into Ms. Cui Guixian's home in Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province. They woke her up, along with her husband, their daughter Ms. Qi Hongmei, who was visiting with their 18-month-old grandchild, and the rest of the family.

The police ransacked Ms. Cui’s place for four hours and confiscated a laptop computer and other Falun Gong-related materials. They then arrested Ms. Cui, despite the fact that she had hurt her shoulder a few days prior and had over ten stitches.

When Ms. Cui's son-in-law tried to stop the police from taking her, the police held him and threatened him not to get involved.

The police then took Ms. Qi and her child and drove them to her home in Dehui City, Jilin Province, and ransacked her home as well.

At the same time, the police went to the home of Ms. Qi's mother-in-law, Ms. Liu Dongying, and arrested her.

Ms. Liu’s husband Mr. Wu Baojun was not home and the police threatened the family to convince him to turn himself in, or he would be added to the wanted list.

Both families were notified later the same day that Ms. Cui and Ms. Liu would be detained for 15 days and released on August 30.

Ms. Cui had some health issues during detention. Her family tried to visit her but were not permitted. A few days later, both families were notified that the two had been transferred to Siping City Detention Center.

Both families went to the police station twice to ask for their release on August 27 and September 9, but to no avail. They still had not been allowed to visit the two practitioners.

Multiple Arrests in Jiang Family

Mr. Jiang Hong and his wife Ms. Wang Fenghua are both natives of Linjiang City, Jilin Province, and are living in Changchun City. Both were arrested in Changchun on August 19 and detained in Lishu County for 15 days.

The couple were returned to the Linjiang City Police Department on September 2. The police confiscated their ID cards, bank cards, and cellphones.

At the police department, Mr. Jiang and Ms. Wu ran into their son, Mr. Jiang's mother, and two brothers, Mr. Jiang Tao and Mr. Jiang Hui, who were also arrested in Changchun and taken to Linjiang for interrogation.

Mr. Jiang's mother and brother Mr. Jiang Tao were released that evening.

Mr. Jiang Hong, his son, and his other brother Mr. Jiang Hui were sent to Baishan Detention Center.

More Arrests

Other practitioners arrested in August 2019 included Zhang Shaoping from Siping, Tang Qiucheng from Yushu, Li Changkun from Changchun, Jiang Xueyan, Fu Caide, Li Zhiling, and Guan Lixin. Some practitioners' names were not known. The total confirmed arrests were 30.

Most of the arrested practitioners were initially given 15 days of detention, but some are still detained and facing further prosecution.

Wang Mingshan, chief of the Lishu County Domestic Security Division, and his subordinate, instructor Zhang Xikun, planned, directed, and executed the whole process. Many police officers participated in the arrests were rewarded.
