(Minghui.org) A married couple in northeastern China has suffered tremendous adversity for their spiritual faith in Falun Gong. The wife was arrested five times and sentenced to five and a half years in prison. The husband was tortured to paralysis in detention and died after 13 years of being bedridden.
As Ms. Liu Xinyin is serving time in prison, her elderly father has been visiting her every month in the past five years, rain or shine, giving her encouragement.
Ms. Liu was a nurse in Dalian City, Liaoning Province and her husband, Mr. Qu Hui, was a cargo clerk at Dalian port. Both of them were targeted for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since 1999.
Mr. Qu became paralyzed due to severe torture at the Dalian Municipal Forced Labor Camp in 2001. He was bedridden and couldn't even turn his body. Ms. Liu took care of him around the clock for 13 years. He passed away in 2014.
The police arrested Ms. Liu on September 23, 2014, one month after her husband's death.
Ms. Liu was sentenced to five and a half years in prison in November 2014. She was sent to Liaoning Women's Prison in Shenyang City.
While visiting Ms. Liu, her father would tell the sad story of his daughter and son-in-law to the guards while waiting for his daughter in the visitation room. Many guards listened attentively and nodded their heads when he condemned the CCP's persecution of his family.
Sometimes the father also mailed letters to the prison, along with pictures of his son-in-law’s suffering. He said, “My daughter didn't do anything wrong, nor did my son-in-law. They were persecuted simply because they wanted to cultivate in Falun Gong and be good people.”
Ms. Liu’s teenage daughter filed a lawsuit in 2016 against Jiang Zemin, former CCP head who launched the persecution of Falun Gong, for destroying her family. Police went to her school to harass and interrogate her.
Ms. Liu is scheduled to be released in March 2020.
