(Minghui.org) A 70-year-old woman in Beijing has been on a hunger strike since November 2019, shortly after she was sentenced to 3.5 years for shouting “Falun Dafa is good” on Tiananmen Square.
She is now hospitalized, and her family has not been allowed to visit her.
Ms. He Wen was arrested for shouting “Falun Dafa is good and Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” on Tiananmen Square on July 12, 2018.
Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The practice has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. He held a hunger strike at Dongcheng District Detention Center and was released on bail on July 18, 2018. The police staked out her house around the clock afterwards.
She was taken back into custody at the detention center after she was tried and sentenced to 3.5 years in prison with a 7,000-yuan fine by the Dongcheng District Court on November 25, 2019.
Ms. he appealed the sentence and started a new hunger strike at the detention center. She was sent to a local police hospital on December 8, 2019. She is now in an intensive care unit and has been given nasal feedings and IV drips every day.
