(Minghui.org) The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) launched the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in July 1999. I went to Beijing to appeal for justice for in September 1999 and was arrested and taken to a detention center.

I was taken to a small cell, about 10 feet by 12 feet, in which there were already 20 people detained. Half the inmates were prostitutes, and the rest were thieves and drug addicts.

Most of them stood up when I entered. They wanted to know why I was arrested. Calmly I told them that I was a Falun Dafa practitioner and would not cause any trouble.

The living conditions ware bad in the detention center. It was overcrowded, so we had to lay sideways to sleep.

The inmates asked me about the injuries on my back. I told them I was tortured because I practice Falun Dafa. I said Falun Dafa is a cultivation practice and that practitioners follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I told them that we are good people and we strive to improve our character and morality. They could not understand why good people were beaten and detained and expressed frustration at the government.

Mute Girl Speaks after Listening to Hong Yin

In the detention center, I recited the Dafa teachings and did the exercises every day. I talked to everyone I met about Dafa, and I told practitioners' cultivation stories. They loved listening to me. They also learned the exercises and asked me to write down Master’s teachings and poems from Hong Yin.

I recited to a mute girl Master's poem,

It’s hard for ordinary men to see, cultivation is painFor they compete and fight each other, treating it as joyCultivate yourself so no attachment does remainThen pain departing, sweetness coming, you have found true joy.” (“Cultivating in the Maze”, Hong Yin)

Suddenly she spoke up, “Good. It's good.” I asked, “You can speak now?” Everyone who heard her talk said it was amazing. She said she felt heat waves coming out of her head when I read Hong Yin to her. She wanted to practice Falun Dafa with me. I told her that she had to become a better person and not steal anymore. I asked how she would feel if other people stole her money. She said in tears that she would not steal again, and then she smiled warmly.

Inmates Want to be Good

Master said,

He who is for fame resents throughout his lifeHe who is for profit does not know his kinHe who is for passion looks for trouble for himselfBitter, fighting, making karma in his life

Chasing not fame, he is carefree and contentCaring not for profit, he’s a kind and righteous oneNot by passion is he moved, his heart is clear, desires fewCultivate in kindness, virtue is accrued throughout his life.”(“Being Human”, Hong Yin)

I also recited other poems. I said that their crimes had hurt their reputations and made their families lose face, just for the sake of money, and that families are the cells of society. One person spoke up, saying her husband and daughter would not speak to her now. She wanted to learn Falun Dafa and said she would not do anything that harmed others again. She asked the others to make room for me to do the exercises and not disturb me when I exercised.

After I told them the Falun Dafa principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, most of them cried and said they wanted to become better people. Another person spoke up and said she would not fight with others anymore. She said the only reason she would ever be arrested again was if she stood up for Falun Dafa. One inmate was arrested because she owed other people money, so she asked her family to repay them because she wanted to be a good person.

They appreciated me for telling them about Falun Dafa and the principles of being a good human being. They said Dafa was saving them through its mighty grace.
