(Minghui.org) Ms. Lan Lihua’s breast-cancer has metastasized, but the prison authorities still deny her medical parole, citing the reason that she refuses to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Lan, 48, a Shenyang City, Liaoning Province resident, was arrested on November 6, 2018, for passing out a calendar with information on it about Falun Gong.

She developed breast cancer while being held at Shenyang City No.1 Detention Center. Despite her weak physical condition, she was made to stand trial at Sujiatun District Court on May 5, 2019, and sentenced to three years and ten months the next day.

Upon learning of her verdict, Ms. Lan’s family said to judge Qu Ning, “She is so sick now and didn’t violate any law. Why did you give her such a lengthy term?”

Judge Qu replied, “There are more cruel sufferings waiting for her.”

Zhao Ying, the head of the fourth ward in the detention center, repeated the same thing to Ms. Lan’s family.

Zhao and Qu then looked at each other and grinned. Both of them also denied the medical parole requests filed by Ms. Lan’s family.

On September 26, 2019, Ms. Lan was transferred to Liaoning Women’s Prison, where she contracted Hepatitis B shortly after.

On March 17, 2020, a guard surnamed Guo called her family and demanded they make a 5,000 yuan deposit for her to do a physical checkup. Guo said Ms. Lan was very weak, unable to walk on her own, and kept coughing.

Guo also emphasized that Ms. Lan was denied medical parole because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. Meanwhile, they are also denying family visits due to the coronavirus epidemic.

After Ms. Lan’s family’s persistent requests, the prison agreed to let them talk to her over the phone.

As soon as the call was connected, they heard guard Guo said to Ms. Lan, “You can only speak three sentences.”

Ms. Lan said, “Please make a deposit to them.” Guard Guo immediately said, “Ask him to wire 10,000 yuan to you!”

Ms. Lan ignored her and then said, “I’m feeling very bad now. The cancer has metastasized to my lymph and lung.” She kept coughing as she was talking. Her voice also sounded very weak.

In her last sentence, Ms. Lan said, “They were treating me very nicely.”

After she finished, Guo took over the phone and urged her family to make the deposit for her soon.

Her family demanded to go to the hospital with them, but Guo replied, “It’s not possible.”
