(Minghui.org) The Fujian Province Women’s Prison is refusing to release an 84-year-old woman who is serving time for her faith in Falun Gong, despite that she has become bedridden after suffering a stroke last year.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Zhu Ziyu, who is a resident of Nanping City, Fujian Province, was arrested on July 26, 2018 and sentenced to a two-year prison term in 2019.

She had a stroke shortly after being transferred to Fujian Province Women’s Prison. Despite that she has become bedridden and unable to care for herself, the authorities have refused to grant medical parole.

Prior to her latest ordeal, Ms. Zhu had been targeted several times for her faith.

She was arrested twice in July 2010. The police beat and interrogated her. While the summer in Fujian is very hot and humid, the police didn’t allow Ms. Zhu to take a shower or accept clothing provided by her family.

Ms. Zhu was arrested again on March 7, 2016 for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and interrogated her. When she refused to sign the interrogation record, they held her hands and forced her to sign the document. The officers also held her to the ground during the home-ransacking, causing her feet to become swollen afterwards.

On January 28, 2018, only months before her latest arrest, she was seized by the police from her home after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. The local detention facility refused to accept her due to her high blood pressure. After she was released, the police harassed her again at home.
