(Minghui.org) On July 30, 2020, the Jiamusi City Intermediate Court in Heilongjiang Province upheld Ms. Li Guihua’s four-year prison sentence for practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Li, 66, from Jiamusi City, has been detained in the Jiamusi City Detention Center for more than 13 months since her arrest last year. She now has dangerously high blood pressure and a heart condition.

The detention center has provided some medical treatment, but her condition is still not good, and the detention center officials are refusing to release her. Her family has applied to the Jiamusi City Intermediate Court for medical parole for her. They are awaiting a decision.

Ms. Li was arrested on June 20, 2019, for talking to people about Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. She was sentenced to four years in the Xiangyang District Court on December 18, 2019, on a charge of “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used by the Chinese authorities to imprison Falun Gong practitioners.

Ms. Li appealed the verdict, only to be turned down seven months later.

Ms. Li, who is retired from working in a lumber factory, was a victim of domestic violence. Her husband beat her and their daughter. Physically and mentally traumatized, Ms. Li found hope after she came across Falun Gong.

Falun Gong’s teachings helped Ms. Li let go of her resentment for her husband. She also took good care of him after he became bedridden from a stroke.
