(Minghui.org) A Yongkang City, Zhejiang Province, woman detained for practicing Falun Gong was operated on without her family’s consent after the local detention center guards alleged that she had a brain tumor. She is now held in the intensive care unit and still in a coma.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Shi Mengqiao was arrested on February 12, 2020, after the police spotted her on surveillance cameras distributing Falun Gong materials. She was tried by the Wucheng District Court on July 21, 2020, and sentenced to 18 months with a 20,000-yuan fine on September 27.

While Ms. Shi was still awaiting the Jinhua City Intermediate Court to rule on her appeals case, the detention center informed her family that she was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to be operated on immediately.

As the detention center has been denying her family visits using the pandemic as an excuse, they suspected that she had been tortured to a critical condition instead of being really ill.

Her family refused to sign the consent form and applied for medical parole for her instead, but the detention center secretly took Ms. Shi to the hospital around midnight and ordered the doctor to operate on her. She is now in the intensive care unit, and the guards have not allowed her family to visit her.

More details about her current situation remain unclear at the time of writing.

Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Shi was arrested at home at around 5 a.m. on August 4, 2011, and taken to a brainwashing center. She was unable to talk after a few days of torture. Her husband brought their four-year-old son with him to the local government to seek her release on August 17, only to be arrested and taken to a brainwashing center himself. It’s not clear where their son was taken after both of them were detained.
