(Minghui.org) Two more women of a group of ten Jieyang City, Guangdong Province residents seized at a private home on June 14, 2020 while reading Falun Gong books together were recently sentenced to prison.
Ms. Yao Jingjiao, 83, was sentenced to three years, and Ms. Jiang Biyin, 80, was given six months.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yao and Ms. Jiang were arrested at Ms. Zhong Peizhen’s home with seven other guests, including Mr. Chen Hongyuan, Ms. Liu Chunlan, Ms. Huang Yanzhi, Ms. Wu Yueyin, Ms. Yao Shaohong, Ms. Cai Wenjun, and Ms. Cai Hui. Most of them are in their 70s and 80s.
Mr. Chen, around 70, was sentenced to nine years with an 80,000-yuan fine in late 2020. Ms. Zhong, 79, was given 2.5 years with a 30,000-yuan fine in September 2021.
After Ms. Yao Jingjiao and Ms. Jiang were released on bail after spending a day in custody, the police and residential committee staff members harassed them on a regular basis. Their bail conditions were renewed twice, in June 2021 and June 2022.
The two practitioners stood trial at the Jiedong District Court in August 2022, and were convicted in November. In addition to the prison sentence, Ms. Yao was also fined 30,000 yuan and Ms. Jiang 5,000 yuan.
The aforementioned ten practitioners were not the only ones in Jieyang who were arrested on the same day for reading Falun Gong teachings together. Ms. Lin Wanzhen and her three guests, including Ms. Lin Liqing, Ms. Wu Rongduan, and a female practitioner whose name is unknown, were also arrested. Ms. Lin Wanzhen was so terrified by the arrest that her health quickly deteriorated and she passed away a month later, in July 2020. Ms. Lin Liqing was sentenced to two years around March 2021.
