[Celebrating World Falun Dafa Day] Life is Short and Precious

(Minghui.org) My wife and I both practice Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong). We have a daughter who turned four years old this year. I would like to share some of the experiences and blessings we have had since we began practicing.

I was a successful fishery engineer. My partners and I formed a company. I was still not satisfied, and kept thinking about how to earn more money. I considered fame and profit to be the purpose of life. I often felt empty, and I seldom thought about others.

More than two years ago, I was still smoking a lot. I had smoked for nearly ten years at that time. As time passed my smoking increased, and I sometimes smoked three packs a day. I also drank heavily. I often had chest pain, shortness of breath, and back pain.

Life Changing Event

In early 2019, I drove while I was drunk and got into an accident. I was diagnosed with a bruised spleen, internal bleeding, broken ribs, etc. The doctor said that I needed surgery, otherwise I might die, but because there was so much alcohol in my system I could not be operated on immediately. Two weeks later I recovered and was discharged from the hospital without surgery.

I later recalled that even though I was not yet cultivating at that time, I was protected by Master. I once read information about Falun Dafa and learned that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) staged the self-immolation incident at Tiananmen Square to slander Falun Dafa. I saw and understood the truth. I then also browsed the website to read Zhuan Falun, but because I was too attached to closed-minded concepts and ideas, I could not finish reading the book.

The most difficult time occurred after I was discharged from the hospital. It was the end point for my career, and I went bankrupt. My wife was still young, my daughter was only two years old, and they relied on me. Poverty, debt, pressure from all sides, as well as poor health surrounded me—it looked as if there was no way out. When it felt like I had hit rock bottom, I started to read Falun Dafa books. This time was different. The more I read, the more interesting I found what Master was saying, and the more I believed it. I read it with tears in my eyes, and I read it from morning to afternoon. Day after day I kept reading. I felt immersed in the Fa. The more I read, the more certain I was that this was what I had been looking for.

When I read Lecture Seven, I immediately quit smoking. Although the pack of cigarettes was still laying on the table, I did not smoke a single cigarette. In the previous ten years, despite receiving a lot of advice from family, friends, my wife, and even with the birth of our daughter, I could not give up smoking. Shortly after that, I also completely quit drinking.

A Second Lease on Life

I finally found the true purpose of being a human being, and realized that life is short but precious. I followed the online instructions to learn the five exercises and I was determined to cultivate. Strangely, all my diseases disappeared without me even knowing it. Because I smoked for a long time, I used to have dark red lips. The skin on my lips is now smooth. I started to think of and consider others first. This was something that I very rarely did before I began cultivating.

I became completely reborn in mind and body through practicing Dafa. I now always try to think and act according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I had become bankrupt with a debt of more than 3 billion VND (a huge amount in my current situation). Usually, people try to run away from these situations; it’s called debt evasion. Although I was in dire straits, after I obtained the Fa, I kept my phone number so that creditors could contact me. I was afraid they would worry because they couldn’t call me. When creditors called, I sincerely told them my situation and asked them to let me have time to pay them back. Fortunately, the majority of them agreed. What I thought was previously inescapable now seemed possible.

After practicing for about six months, my wife also started to practice Dafa. She was diligent in reading the books and practicing the exercises. My wife’s congestive heart disease also went away. I don’t know when it disappeared (gastroenteritis is considered a chronic disease by doctors, and can only be controlled but not completely cured).

My wife and I gave up our old jobs. We now make dumplings and sell drinks. When my wife went to the market in the past, she bargained for the best prices, and was picky. She no longer does this. She usually goes to the poorest sellers. She realized that if she choses to buy all the best things, it will be difficult for the vendor to sell the remaining items.

When we sell drinks, we make natural and organic ones, none that contain chemicals or artificial colors. When we make dumplings, we try to improve the dumplings without using bleaching powder or chemical baking powder.

Around July 2021, when the COVID pandemic broke out in Vietnam, social distancing was strictly enforced. People in many areas were isolated, and unable to go out to buy food. In difficult times, vendors often increase prices or add additional costs to the customers’ bills. However, we were not like that. A customer who ordered from us many times once told my wife, “Because of these difficult times, we now know who is honest and who is not.”

My wife and I cultivate together, so our daughter has also received blessings from Dafa. She has had no minor illnesses, is very alert and honest, and always treats her friends and small animals well. She also does not accept “lucky” money and gifts arbitrarily because she does not know how to use money and is afraid that if people give it to her, they will end up losing money. Our daughter also knows how to help her parents look after the shop, and answer the phone to help her mother when she is busy. We do not allow our daughter to use a smartphone. We absolutely do not use the phone to coax her to eat or sleep because it is only for adults to use. So, even though she is a little curious, she does not watch without permission.

We have benefited from Falun Dafa so much, and we don’t hesitate to tell everyone the beauty of Dafa. We also tell people how Falun Dafa is persecuted in China.

Because my life was reincarnated for this time, I know that the blessings my family received is because I understand the truth.
