(Minghui.org) Two Hefei City, Anhui Province, residents were sentenced in late 2021 for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Wang Dunlong, a famous calligrapher, was arrested at home on July 21, 2020. The police also arrested his wife, Ms. Hu Xueye, and her sister, Ms. Hu Wenye. Their Falun Gong books, informational materials, computer, and printer were confiscated.

The police targeted the three practitioners after they were reported for talking to people about Falun Gong in February and March 2020.

While Ms. Hu Xueye was released after 13 days of detention and cleared of prosecution, the police submitted the case against her husband and sister to the Shushan District Procuratorate and sought prosecution of them.

The Shushan District Court held a hearing of the case against Mr. Wang and Ms. Hu Wenye on November 12, 2021. The judge sentenced Mr. Wang to two years and four months with a 4,000-yuan fine, and Ms. Hu to one year and four months, with a probation of one year and six months and a 2,000-yuan fine, on December 6.

Mr. Wang appealed with the Hefei City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict. He was taken to the Suzhou Prison on May 30, 2022. His wife received a call from the prison on June 9 that because she also practices Falun Gong, she isn’t allowed to visit, write to, or call him.
