(Minghui.org) A woman in Suining City, Sichuan Province, was sentenced to six months on October 17, 2023, for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Xie Mingyu, 73, was arrested on February 8, 2023, while distributing informational materials about Falun Gong on her way to the grocery store. She was interrogated at the Nanjinqiao Police Station for five hours and released on bail.

The police later submitted Ms. Xie’s case to the Chuanshan District Procuratorate. Prosecutor Tian Guangrong indicted her and moved her case to the Chuanshan District Court. She appeared in court on October 17 and was sentenced to six months. She was released after the hearing and it’s unclear when she’ll be taken back into custody to serve time.

Prior to her sentencing, Ms. Xie has been arrested and harassed multiple times between 2008 and 2022 for upholding her faith.

On July 6, 2008, led by the village head, Fuyuan Road Police Station officers broke into Ms. Xie’s home, confiscated her Falun Gong books and informational materials, and arrested her.

While Ms. Xie was soon released, the police arrested her again days later on July 10 and raided her home for the second time. She was asked where she got the Falun Gong books. She was held at the Beimen Lockup overnight and transferred to the Yongxing Detention Center next day. She was released on August 7, 2008.

Officer Tang Lizhong called Ms. Xie once in 2014 and attempted to make her renounce her faith. She was harassed at home again by two officers of the Fuyuan Road Police Station in 2015.

Ms. Xie and two other practitioners, Ms. Yang Zhongbi, 69, and Ms. Zheng Shude, were arrested on the morning of April 28, 2020, by Kaixuan Road Police Station officers after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials at a farmers’ market. Ms. Xie’s flash-drive and 60 yuan in paper currency with information about Falun Gong printed on the notes was confiscated. She was interrogated and had her photo taken before being released that afternoon.

Ms. Xie was harassed two more times, on June 25, 2021, by Fuyuan Road Police Station officers and on May 16, 2022, by Nanjin Road Police Station officers.
