(Minghui.org) It was recently learned that Ms. Wang Lianrong, 58, who lives in Xiqing District, Tianjin was sentenced to four years for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Wang was arrested by officers from the Zhangjiawo Police Station on May 10, 2023 and was convicted by the Xiqing District Court at an unknown date. She is currently appealing her verdict. The other details about her prosecution are being investigated.

Ms. Wang began practicing Falun Gong in December 1997 and soon recovered from sciatica, pharyngitis, and serious gynecological diseases. She also became a more filial daughter and daughter-in-law and took meticulous care of her mother and parents-in-law. After the persecution began in July 1999, she never wavered in her faith. Prior to her latest sentencing, she was twice jailed for a total of seven years.

Sentenced to 3 Years Following Arrest in 2010

Ms. Wang was arrested on July 27, 2010, after being reported for putting up self-adhesive stickers which had information about the persecution of Falun Gong. Officers from the Xinkou Township Police Station beat her and shocked her with electric batons during the arrest. After she was taken to the police station, officer Feng Qingkai slapped her face because she refused to pay 50,000 yuan in exchange for her release.

The police station’s supervising agency, the Xiqing District Police Department, dispatched officers to raid Ms. Wang’s home after her arrest. She was later transferred to the Xiqing District Detention Center, where she was held for nearly a year before being sentenced to three years and admitted to the Tianjin Women’s Prison.

After she was released, Ms. Wang learned that the Qixing District 610 Office extorted 30,000 yuan from her husband while she was detained.

Sentenced to 4 Years Following Arrest in 2016

Ms. Wang was arrested during a police sweep on December 7, 2016. Officers from the Zhendong Police Station broke into her home that day and confiscated her computer, printer, music player, three cell phones, a set of Falun Gong books, and some banknotes printed with messages about Falun Gong (a way practitioners in China raise awareness of the persecution).

Mr. Wu Dianzhong, another practitioner who was arrested earlier that day, was brought to Ms. Wang’s home. The police alleged that Mr. Wu had ratted Ms. Wang out when he didn’t. They warned Ms. Wang’s husband that she would face severe consequences since she “had contact with someone [Mr. Wu] who had been very active in ‘organizing Falun Gong activities.’”

Both Mr. Wu and Ms. Wang were later sentenced to prison, with the former receiving five years and the latter four years. Their appeals were rejected. For details of the police sweep and the two practitioners’ trial, as well as the prosecution of other arrested practitioners, see the related reports below.
