Additional Persecution News from China – July 2, 2023 (15 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 12 cities or counties in 9 provinces, where at least 38 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Zhang Chunjie Prosecuted

Ms. Zhang Chunjie, 59, lives in Yuanding Garden, Jingyue District, Changchun City. She was originally from Dehui City. Around 9 a.m. on February 19, 2023, officers from the Erdao District Domestic Security Division and the Dongzhan Police Station broke into Ms. Zhang Chunjie’s home. They took her to the Changchun City Detention Center for 15 days of administrative detention.

Fifteen days later, Ms. Zhang was taken to the Changchun City Supervision Center, also known as the No. 4 Detention Center in Changchun City.

In early April, Ms. Zhang was officially arrested by the Chaoyang District Procuratorate. It was reported that her case was sent to the court.

2. [Neijiang City, Sichuan Province] Pan Zunhong Missing for Over a Week

Friends and family have not heard from Pan Zunhong since June 22, 2023. Pan was followed and monitored by the police for a period of time prior to that date, and it's believed that Pan was arrested.

Several practitioners were harassed in June by people affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party over the phone or at their homes.

3. [Songyuan City, Jilin Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Duan Yuying, 53, Kong, 66, and Ms. Li Shufan, 77, from Ningjiang District, were arrested around 8 a.m. on June 30, 2023. They were arrested after Kong was caught on surveillance cameras while distributing Falun Gong materials. Ms. Li was released that day. Ms. Duan and Kong’s whereabouts are not known.

Ms. Duan’s husband is a terminal cancer patient. She has taken care of him for over 10 years, and he survives on liquid food.

4. [Tianshui City, Gansu Province] Ms. Zhang Xiaojuan Detained

Ms. Zhang Xiaojuan, a teacher at Muslim Primary School, was arrested by officers from the Qinzhou District Domestic Security Division on June 12, 2023. She was placed under administrative detention for 15 days and was held in the Zaojiao Detention Center in Qinzhou District.

5. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Mr. Chu Qinghua Harassed

Qu Lezhong from Xiashan District Domestic Security Division led three police officers to break into the home of Mr. Chu Qinghua’s mother on June 15, 2023. They tried to arrest Mr. Chu but did not succeed.

6. [Yangquan City, Shanxi Province] Four Practitioners Harassed

Officers from Guanshan Town Police Station went to the homes of practitioners Yu Chanfang, Li Baosheng, and Wei Xiuzhen to harass and photograph them.

Niu Wenwei was photographed on the street.

7. [Zibo City, Shandong Province] Eight Practitioners Arrested

Officers from police stations in Zichuan District drove eight police cars to Fo Village, Zhaili Township, around 5 a.m. on June 26, 2023. They arrested seven practitioners and took them separately to seven police stations.

Ms. Lu Meixia was placed under 15 days of detention. She returned home the following day due to her high blood pressure. Ms. Wang Fafen was not at home, and the officers ransacked her home instead.

Eight practitioners were arrested.

8. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Ms. Chen Yanhua and Another Practitioner Officially Arrested

Ms. Chen Yanhua and another female practitioner, whose last name is Chen, were arrested by officers from the Xisantiao Police Station at the Guangfu Road Market on May 22, 2023. After the two practitioners were held in a lockup center for 15 days, they were transferred to a detention center. Both have been officially placed under arrest.

9. [Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Sheng Arrested

It was reported that on the afternoon of June 19, 2023, Ms. Sheng from Bao’an District gave a Falun Gong informational booklet to a junior high school student, who was heading home from school. The student returned to school and handed the booklet to the school security director, who called the police. The police tracked Ms. Sheng down based on surveillance videos and arrested her. Ms. Sheng has been placed in criminal detention.

10. [Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province] Several Practitioners Arrested

On June 30, 2023, the Qiqihar City police arrested several practitioners and ransacked their homes. It was reported that Wang Shuling, Shi Shufang, and Yu Shufang paid fines and were released on bail.

11. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] Mr. Cai Jianjun’s Home Ransacked

Two officers in police uniforms and three others in plain clothes went to Mr. Cai Jianjun’s home around 11 a.m. on June 25, 2023. They claimed to be members of the county police department. One person was wearing a video recorder on his chest, and after entering the home, he started recording. Several other people ransacked the place. They confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun and photos of the founder of Falun Gong. The officers also threatened Mr. Cai.

12. [Tonghua City, Jilin Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Over 20 officers ransacked the homes of Mr. Liu Xinsheng, his granddaughter Ms. Liu Xiuli, his grandson Mr. Liu Zecheng, and his daughter-in-law Ms. Song Xueqin at the same time on July 20, 2022. Ms. Liu and Mr. Liu Zecheng were arrested and later released on bail. According to police paperwork, Mr. Liu Xinsheng and Ms. Song were also marked as released on bail. All four practitioners have been placed under surveillance. The officers confiscated from Ms. Liu Xiuli’s home two laptops, two printers, Falun Gong books, A4 printing paper, ink, and MP3 players, among other items.

On June 25, 2023, Ms. Liu Xiuli and Ms. Liu Zecheng were sentenced to three years in prison, with four years of probation, and Ms. Song Xueqin was sentenced to three years in prison with three years of probation.

13. [Huludao City, Liaoning Province] Original Verdict Against Ms. Li Guihua Upheld

Ms. Li Guihua, 58, from Lianshan District, was arrested at home on January 11, 2023. She was tried by the Lianshan District Court on April 28, 2023, and was sentenced to three years and six months in prison and fined 10,000 yuan.

On June 25, Criminal Final Judgment Case No. 125 of Liaoning Series 14 of Criminal Rulings (2023) was issued. The Huludao City Intermediate Court upheld the original judgment.

14. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Update on Four Practitioners Held in Jilin Women’s Prison

Ms. Ding Shufen, 72, from Changchun City, was arrested in 2021 and sentenced to three years in prison. She is now held on the first floor of the No. 8 Ward in Jilin Women’s Prison. She is now in poor health, with heart problems and high blood pressure.

Ms. Lu Lizhen, 69, from Changchun City, was arrested in 2021 and sentenced to two years and six months. She is held on the second floor of the prison's No. 8 Ward.

Ms. Li Guiling, in her 60s, from Changchun City, was arrested in 2021 and was sentenced to two years and six months in prison. Her prison term will end in July 2023.

Ms. Zhao Shuqin, 67, from Yitong County, Siping City, was sentenced to three years in prison. She is having difficulty walking, and can only move around by holding onto a small stool. Her sentence will end in September 2023.

15. [Songyuan City, Jilin Province] Two Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Tang Xigui from Hongguang Farm in Qianguo County was arrested by officers from the Qianguo County Police Department and the Baiyilaga Township Police Station on the morning of June 28, 2023. The officers subsequently returned to his home and ransacked the place.

Around 7 p.m. on June 28, two people from the Stability Maintenance Office of the Qianguo County Police Department, together with three others, who were Baiyilaga Township Police Station officers and a local residential auxiliary officer, broke into Mr. Qu Jun’s home in the No. 11 Branch Farm of Hongguang Farm. Mr. Qu was not there. These people confiscated two photos of the founder of Falun Gong, a laptop, and two audio players. Before leaving, they told Mr. Qu’s mother to tell him to go to the police station when he returned home.

Around 11 a.m. on June 28, Ms. Zhang Shuxia was arrested by officers from the Qianguo County Police Department and the Baiyilaga Township Police Station. The officers confiscated a photo of the founder of Falun Gong, a book, and several tapes.
