Abiding by Falun Dafa’s Principles in Arbitration Cases

(Minghui.org) I’m a university teacher, and I began practicing Falun Dafa in 1996. I’m grateful to Master for his compassion and salvation, which made me, a person who was entangled in fame and fortune, realize my fundamental attachment.

I’d like to tell you how I applied Falun Dafa’s principles while hearing arbitration cases—I wish to tell everyone that Master and Falun Dafa are great.

Remaining Impartial

After the COVID pandemic, as the chief arbitrator, I heard a shop leasing case. The respondent in this case relied on her relationship with the officials of the Provincial Department of Justice and refused to pay rent and she owed more than one million yuan in rent. When the case was heard, the respondent initially praised me. When she saw that I was not moved, she threatened me and said, “This is the last case you’ll hear!” implying that she would make me lose my position as an arbitrator.

She was arrogant and fearless during the hearing. After the hearing, I received a call from the leader of the Arbitration Commission. I was also threatened by the leader of the Provincial Department of Justice and the leader of the Arbitration Commission. I was under pressure from many sources, including from the leadership of the arbitration commission, from the arbitrators appointed by the parties, and from both parties. I reminded myself that I’m a Falun Dafa practitioner and I should face these things with the mindset and standards of a cultivator. I told the leaders of the arbitration commission: The ruling must stand the test of time.

After the case was adjudicated, the respondent complained everywhere. Because I made a fair ruling, I had no worries or fear. The respondent’s attempt to pressure me through her connections failed. I also heard some cases where the leaders of my workplace and colleagues tried to intercede. I always remember that I’m a practitioner, and no matter what pressure I face, I would never smear Falun Dafa—I strictly uphold fairness and justice. As a professor I also teach my students to strictly abide by the law and respect the rules, no matter what pressure or temptation they encounter.

Take Fame and Self-Interest Lightly

As the chief arbitrator, I heard a case where the disputed amount was more than 30 million yuan. The applicant was a private enterprise, and the respondent was a large central enterprise. The assistant referee appointed by the applicant told me that he knew the applicant’s boss, and the man said he would give me a few gifts after the case was heard. I smiled, and said nothing. I made a fair ruling after I considered the evidence submitted by both parties. Because the ruling did not meet the expectations of the applicant’s assistant referee, this assistant referee took advantage of his relationship with the leader of the arbitration commission to give me some trouble. I only smiled.

When a fellow practitioner heard about this case he said, “How lucky they were that you arbitrated the case!”

Understand Difficulties of the Parties Involved

Due to the economic downturn and the bleak economic situation, many parties involved in these cases face economic difficulties and suffering. I remind myself that I’m a Falun Dafa practitioner. I care about the parties involved, listen carefully to them, understand their difficulties, and sincerely think about them.

One case involved an education and training contract dispute. The respondent was originally a big boss with assets of more than 10 million, but because his partner ran away with his money, he was penniless and faced with huge financial pressure. When he walked into the Arbitral Tribunal he looked very fierce and irritable. I was not moved by his appearance. I talked to him and gave him suggestions. He was deeply moved by my kindness. He was no longer depressed, and the tense hearing became harmonious. The respondent and the applicant reached an agreement—not only was the dispute resolved, but the respondent was motivated to continue working hard throughout the arbitration hearing.

There was also a series of disputes involving education and training contracts. In one case the applicant was a student receiving education and training, the respondent was a large education and training institution. Before the hearing I carefully reviewed the facts of the case. During the hearing process the respondent was impressed by my seriousness, responsibility, rigor and meticulousness. Eight cases were successfully mediated in one day. The mediation process of these eight cases not only touched the parties involved, the arbitration secretary was deeply moved. I knew I was able to successfully resolve these disputes because I am a Falun Dafa practitioner—I always kept in mind Master’s teachings. I handled each case with the mentality of being responsible to all parties. I know this ability comes from Falun Dafa!

In today’s society, I am extremely lucky to obtain Falun Dafa. I’m no longer confused. I am the luckiest and richest person in the world because I follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. I hope everyone will remember that “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!”
