(Minghui.org) An 85-year-old retired teacher in Weifang City, Shandong Province, was taken into custody on June 23, 2025 to serve the prison term he was given in 2022 for practicing Falun Gong.

According to officers from the Gaoxin District Police Station who seized Mr. Wang Zhigeng at home, they were given orders to imprison all Falun Gong practitioners who were sentenced during the COVID-19 pandemic, regardless of their age or health.

Similar incidents have also been reported in Heilongjiang, Jilin, and Liaoning Provinces, where practitioners were taken back into custody to serve jail terms they were previously allowed to serve outside of prison. In Heilongjiang Province, the Central Leading Group for Inspection Work of the Chinese Communist Party went to Daqing City and ordered the local authorities to ramp up the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and put them in jail.

Mr. Wang is currently being held in a detention center. It’s not clear whether the authorities will take him to prison anytime soon.

Mr. Wang was born in November 1949. His prison sentence stemmed from a raid of his home on October 23, 2019, after the police spotted him on surveillance cameras putting up posters about Falun Gong days earlier. They did not arrest him after the raid.

After the Kuiwen District Court scheduled a hearing for August 3, 2020, Mr. Wang left home to avoid being tried. He was later arrested on August 15, 2022, and sentenced to three years and fined 5,000 yuan on August 26, 2022.

Right after he was sentenced, Mr. Wang was taken to the Weifang City Second People’s Hospital for a physical exam. The authorities attempted to take him to the Weifang City Detention Center after the checkup, but they relented and released him that day (August 26, 2022). He was taken back into custody on June 23, 2025, to start serving time.
