(Minghui.org) A 56-year-old resident of Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was notified on July 15, 2025, that he had been sentenced to nine years for his faith in Falun Gong. He is now appealing the wrongful conviction.
Mr. Jiang Dexin was home on the night of October 26, 2024, when he was seized by a group of officers from Chengde City, Hebei Province, about 400 miles away. They held him at the Fushun City Detention Center overnight and interrogated him the following day. On October 28, they took him to Hebei Province and put him in the Chengde City Detention Center.
The Shuangqiao District Procuratorate in Chengde City indicted Mr. Jiang in March 2025. He stood trial at the Shuangqiao District Court on July 4, 2025. The presiding judge accused him of “inciting, assembling, and organizing activities to undermine law enforcement.”
Mr. Jiang testified in his own defense, and his lawyer also entered a not guilty plea for him. The judge did not allow them to present the defense’s evidence or have their witness appear in court to accept cross examination.
It is unclear what evidence the prosecutor presented that linked Mr. Jiang, an out of towner, to Hebei Province.
The prosecutor recommended 7-10 years, and the judge handed down a nine-year sentence with a 20,000-yuan fine, days after the hearing. Mr. Jiang’s lawyer notified him of the verdict on July 15, 2025.
Mr. Jiang is awaiting his appeal while being held at the Chengde City Detention Center.
This is not the first time that Mr. Jiang has been jailed for practicing Falun Gong, which he took up in March 1998 and credits for breaking his habit of stealing. He was a burglar while young and spent his teen and young adult years in various detention facilities. After he came across Falun Gong, he realized what he was doing was wrong and quit stealing.
After the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999, Mr. Jiang held firm to his faith and was repeatedly targeted. He was arrested in 2000 and sentenced to eight years in prison.
Some of the guards at the Shenyang City Second Prison still remembered Mr. Jiang from his younger years and asked what got him in there again. He said this time he was jailed for striving to be a good person through practicing Falun Gong.
Mr. Jiang was transferred to the Nanguanling Prison in December 2007 and was forced to do hard labor from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. In the evening, he was subjected to various forms of abuse, including electric shocks, savage beatings, and sleep deprivation.
Mr. Jiang was released around October 2008, only to be arrested again on April 15, 2012, during a police sweep that netted nearly 100 Falun Gong practitioners. He was tortured for a whole night with his teeth falling out and bruises everywhere on his body. He passed out multiple times during the marathon torture session.
The Shenhe District Court tried Mr. Jiang on December 25, 2012, and sentenced him to six years in March 2013. He was admitted to the Dongling Prison on July 10, 2013.
The prison guards subjected Mr. Jiang and other jailed practitioners to various forms of abuse, including pulling out their pubic hair, inserting bamboo sticks into their urethra, force-fed them urine and feces “soup,” shocking them with electric batons (sometimes tying a metal wire to their penis before applying electricity), pouring cold water on them, beating them, slapping them in the face, and depriving them of sleep.
