(Minghui.org) A total of 74 cases of Falun Gong practitioners sentenced to prison for their faith were confirmed in July 2025.

The newly-confirmed cases included 3 that took place in 2020, 6 in 2021, 4 each in 2022 and 2023, 7 in 2024, 33 in 2025, and 17 cases that occurred at unknown times. With ever stricter information censorship under the Chinese Communist Party, many details about the practitioners’ indictments, trials, and sentences were difficult (if not impossible) to collect, which caused further delays in reporting.

The sentenced Falun Gong practitioners are from sixteen provinces or centrally-controlled municipalities. Beijing reported the most cases of 12, followed by 9 cases in Liaoning, 8 cases in Shandong, 7 in Heilongjiang, and 6 in Sichuan. The remaining 11 regions had between 1 and 5 cases. Twenty-nine of the practitioners were 60 or older at the time of their sentencing, including 15 in their 60s, 11 in their 70s, and 3 in their 80s.

The authorities violated legal procedures at every step of the prosecution process, from violently arresting the practitioners and raiding their homes without proper search warrants, to force-feeding them in custody; from trying to interfere with the practitioners’ legal representation to convicting them without any legal basis.

The following are details of select sentencing cases.

Violation of Legal Procedures

Liaoning Woman Beaten in Detention Center

Ms. Chen Yan, around 44 and from Benxi City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on July 14, 2024, after a community worker spotted her distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. The worker videotaped her and shared the clip with his supervisor, who then notified the police. After her case reached the Xihu District Court, judge Wang Mian barred her non-lawyer defender from reviewing her case file or visiting her.

When Ms. Chen’s lawyer was finally allowed to visit her at the local detention center on October 30, 2024, he learned that she was beaten three times on August 5 by four inmates who were instructed by the guards to abuse her. The lawyer also noticed that Ms. Chen was in low spirits, slow to respond, and appeared weak. He returned the next day for another meeting and was shocked when she had no recollection of their meeting the day before. She complained about heart palpitations and said she had blood in her sputum.

Judge Wang scheduled three hearings of Ms. Chen’s case for December 17, 2024, January 15, 2025, and February 20, 2025. She refused to be taken to the courtroom to attend any of the hearings in protest of the abuse she suffered at the detention center.

On May 15, 2025, judge Wang tried Ms. Chen at her detention center cell despite her objection. She testified in her own defense and recounted how the inmates beat her. She was emaciated after ten months of detention.

Judge Wang sentenced Ms. Chen to five years with a 5,000-yuan fine on June 26, 2025. He didn’t inform her lawyer of the verdict until the 10-day appeals window had expired. After learning about her sentencing on July 15, her family went to the court and demanded a copy of her verdict. Judge Wang refused to provide it.

Fabricated Evidence and Impeded Legal Representation

Ms. Wang Ping and 54-year-old Mr. Yang Yifan, both of Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, were sentenced to 2.5 years and fined 10,000 yuan on July 25, 2025.

Nine people from the two practitioners’ families attended the trial held at the Chenghua District Court. The bailiffs took photos of their IDs and didn’t allow them to bring their cell phones into the courtroom. The presiding judge, Pu Li, and two other judges all wore masks during the trial. Mr. Yang’s lawyer, who had promised to defend his innocence, entered a guilty plea for him against his will.

Ms. Wang was arrested on May 10, 2023. She was first held at a brainwashing center for six months and then transferred to the Chengdu City Detention Center when her arrest was approved. She was charged with “subverting state power.” The police kept her family in the dark about her case status. Only after they contacted the local procuratorate, did they find out about Ms. Wang’s detention and formal arrest warrant.

Ms. Wang’s son submitted the paperwork to represent her in July 2024. He went to the court over ten times, demanding to review of her case document, but was repeatedly denied. When the court finally allowed him to review the documents on July 14, 2025, a court date had been scheduled for July 25. When he reviewed the case document, the judge only allowed him to read it or hand-copy the content, without taking photos or making photocopies. He wasn’t allowed to visit his mother before the trial, even when the judge agreed to arrange a meeting.

During the trial on July 25, Ms. Wang pointed out that the police failed to log the 30,000 yuan confiscated from her on the record. The judge attempted to lead to the narrative that she lost the money herself. Her son demanded that the judge play the video of the home raid taken by the police’s body-cam, but was denied.

The judge also failed to have the police appear in court to accept cross-examination or have the prosecutor provide a legal basis for the persecution of Falun Gong.

When Ms. Wang’s son submitted the cult list issued by the Ministry of Public Security in 2000, which didn’t include Falun Gong, the prosecutor claimed that the list wasn’t valid because it didn’t have an official seal on it.

Ms. Wang added that while the police claimed she sent three text messages about Falun Gong through a Bluetooth server, they admitted to her that they couldn’t really verify who sent the messages. To fabricate evidence against her, they deceived her into sending them three messages and then said it was she who did it.”

Secret Sentencing of Beijing Man

Mr. Li Yeliang’s family received a notice around mid-July 2025 saying that their loved one had been admitted to the Beijing Second Prison to serve a three-year prison term for his faith in Falun Gong.

The wrongful conviction of the 55-year-old Beijing man stemmed from his simple act of giving the security guard at a residential complex a flash drive containing information about Falun Gong. The security guard reported him to the police.

An officer called Mr. Li on September 28, 2024, and said the police chief needed to talk to him because the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was to be held in Beijing.

Mr. Li replied that he had nothing to do with the Summit. The caller said, “See you tomorrow!” Mr. Li then went missing the next day. His family heard nothing from the authorities until recently, when they received the prison notice. In retrospect, the family realized that the police were simply using the Summit as an excuse to arrest Mr. Li because the communist regime is known for intensifying the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners around sensitive dates. As a matter of fact, the Summit was held on September 4-6, 2024, before that officer called Mr. Li.

Prior to his latest sentencing, Mr. Li had served one forced labor term and two prison terms totaling 12 years for his faith.

Recounting Past Persecution Experience Leads to Another Five-Year Prison Sentence

Mr. Miao Jianguo, a 60-year-old electrician in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province, was arrested at home on August 21, 2024. The police claimed that they arrested him because he promoted Falun Gong and defamed government officials in his retirement application, which he submitted to his former employer.

Mr. Miao started to work at the Jinzhou Railroad Bureau East Section in December 1982, when he was 18. He was fired when he was sentenced to a 3-year forced labor camp term in 2002 for practicing Falun Gong. He was later sentenced to 4 years in 2008 and given another 1.5-year prison term in 2022.

Following his arrest in 2001, his eight-month pregnant wife, also a Falun Gong practitioner, was so distressed that she suffered placental abruption, resulting in the unborn child’s death. She was never able to carry a baby again. She passed away in 2022, after enduring years of persecution, while Mr. Miao was still detained.

In July 2024, Mr. Miao applied for retirement benefits and recounted his family’s persecution in the application, only to have that become his “crime.”

Mr. Miao stood trial on February 18, 2025, without legal representation. His family wasn’t informed of the hearing. None of the prosecution's evidence was exhibited in court for cross-examination; the witness Zhang Xiushan, the manager at the Jinzhou Railroad Bureau East Section who received Mr. Miao’s retirement application, didn’t appear in court either. The judge sentenced him to five years with a 6,000-yuan fine on April 16, 2025.

Sentenced by Out-Of-Town Courts

Native of Hebei Province Sentenced to One Year Prison Term in Zhejiang Province for Talking to People About Falun Gong

A native of Langfang City, Hebei Province, was sentenced to one year in prison on May 16, 2025, by a court in Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province.

Ms. Yang Guijuan, 57, did odd jobs in Haiyan County, Jiaxing City. She was arrested by more than ten officers on October 12, 2024, for talking to people about Falun Gong. Her family learned in February 2025 that she had been indicted by the Tongxiang City Procuratorate. Tongxiang is under the jurisdiction of Jiaxing.

During a pre-trial hearing, Ms. Yang’s family defender raised three requests: 1) Call the witnesses to court to be cross examined; 2) Exclude the police-supplied authentication of prosecution evidence (as only an independent, third-party agency is authorized to verify evidence); 3) Present in court the “Announcement 50” issued by the General Administration of Press and Publication on March 1, 2011, lifting the ban on Falun Gong books. The presiding judge did not make a decision right away.

The day the trial was held, April 8, 2025, a cordon was set up outside the Tongxiang City Court. A SWAT vehicle and an unmarked police car were parked near the entrance. Three police officers stood guard, and a table was set up to conduct security checks on anyone who entered the building.

About 20 young people, who had no relation to Ms. Yang, were seen in the gallery. After the hearing began, the judge announced that he would deny all three requests that Ms. Yang’s family defender made at the pre-trial meeting. He also ruled against the family defender’s request during the hearing to have the prosecutor present the actual prosecution evidence.

Ms. Yang recounted how she had fainted several times since her arrest and had stomachaches. During the more than twenty days she was held in a police hospital, she was handcuffed and shackled to a hospital bed. The day before the court hearing, she was taken back to the detention center, but she was not notified of the trial.

Ms. Yang also shared how practicing Falun Gong benefited her. She said that she hadn’t violated any laws by practicing her faith or distributing informational materials about it. While she was detained at the detention center, the inmates all bullied her in the beginning, but her kindness eventually touched them and won their respect. The judge kept interrupting her. He also cut her off as she was giving her final statement. When she insisted on finishing her statement, she was dragged out of the courthouse.

The judge sentenced Ms. Yang to a one-year prison term on May 16, 2025, and her appeal was rejected by the Jiaxing City Intermediate Court. She had been admitted to the Zhejiang Province Women’s Prison in the capital city of Hangzhou.

67-Year-Old Hebei Woman Sentenced to Over 3 Years by a Court in Shaanxi Province

A 67-year-old woman in Huai’an County, Hebei Province, was sentenced to three years and four months by a court in Shaanxi Province.

While visiting her son in Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, Ms. Han Jinhua hung Falun Gong information on doorknobs in a residential area. A resident saw her from his doorbell camera and reported her to the police.

Officers from Xi’an City traveled over 600 miles to Huai’an County, Hebei Province, on August 30, 2024, to arrest Ms. Han, who had returned home by that time. They took her back to Shaanxi and put her in the Lianhu District Detention Center.

The Lianhu District Second Procuratorate indicted Ms. Han on an unknown date and forwarded her case to the Lianhu District Court in late November 2024.

Ms. Han was tried on January 22, 2025. Her lawyer received a notice in mid-July 2025 that she had been sentenced to three years and four months.

Lengthy Terms

Twice Jailed for a Total of 14 Years, Liaoning Man Gets Another 9 Years

Mr. Jiang Dexin, a 56-year-old resident of Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was home on the night of October 26, 2024, when he was seized by a group of officers from Chengde City, Hebei Province, about 400 miles away. They held him at the Fushun City Detention Center overnight and interrogated him the following day. On October 28, they took him to Hebei Province and put him in the Chengde City Detention Center.

Mr. Jiang stood trial at the Shuangqiao District Court in Chengde City on July 4, 2025. The presiding judge accused him of “inciting, assembling, and organizing activities to undermine law enforcement.”

Mr. Jiang testified in his own defense, and his lawyer also entered a not guilty plea for him. The judge did not allow them to present the defense’s evidence or have their witness appear in court to accept cross-examination. It is unclear what evidence the prosecutor presented that linked Mr. Jiang, an out-of-towner, to Hebei Province.

The prosecutor recommended 7-10 years, and the judge handed down a nine-year sentence with a 20,000-yuan fine, days after the hearing. Mr. Jiang’s lawyer notified him of the verdict on July 15, 2025.

This is not the first time that Mr. Jiang has been jailed for practicing Falun Gong. After the persecution began in July 1999, he was repeatedly targeted for upholding his faith and sentenced to eight and six years after his arrests in 2000 and 2012, respectively.

65-Year-Old Beijing Woman Sentenced to 7.5 Years

Ms. Wei Suwen, of Beijing, was arrested on June 13, 2024, for mailing letters with information about Falun Gong. While being interrogated at the street committee office, she had chest pain, and her face turned pale. Despite her condition, the police still gave her 10 days of administrative detention.

Ms. Wei was arrested again on August 15, 2024, while walking in a park. She was transferred to the local detention center around midnight. The Dongcheng District Procuratorate approved her arrest on August 30 with the charge of “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization.”

Ms. Wei appeared in the Dongcheng District Court on February 18. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her. Only one member of her family was allowed to attend the hearing. The presiding judge sentenced her to 7.5 years on June 27, 2025.

Prior to her recent ordeal, Ms. Wei was given two years of forced labor in 2006. She was forced to sit motionless on a small stool from 4 a.m. to 12 a.m. the next day. Her buttocks festered and bled, causing excruciating pain.

73-Year-Old Shandong Man Secretly Sentenced to 7 Years

Mr. Sun Hongzhu’s family received a notice in July 2025 stating that he was admitted to the Jinan Prison in Shandong Province on June 25, 2025, to serve a seven-year prison term for his faith in Falun Gong.

Mr. Sun, a 73-year-old resident of Shouguang City, Shandong Province, was arrested on November 9, 2024. The police accused Mr. Sun of using a cult to undermine law enforcement and issued a formal arrest warrant of him. After that, his family was never given any updates about his indictment, trial, or sentencing. They didn’t know about his wrongful conviction and prison admission until they received the prison notice.

Mother of Two Sentenced to 6.5 Years

Ms. Yang Qiaoli, a mother of two school-aged children in Tongchuan City, Shaanxi Province, was arrested on January 8, 2024. Two of her siblings were detained for 15 days when they tried to get her released.

After a Beijing lawyer took up her case, the police filed a complaint against the lawyer and his law firm with the Beijing Judicial Bureau, accusing him of “daring to defend a Falun Gong practitioner.”

Prosecutor Gao Guanghua from the Yintai District Procuratorate called the law firm to ask if the lawyer was indeed on its payroll. Gao also asked whether the law firm owner knew that the lawyer was representing a Falun Gong practitioner.

Gao later called the lawyer directly and asked if he agreed that Falun Gong was a cult. The lawyer replied that neither he nor Gao had the credentials to address this question as to whether a belief system was a cult, and it was not decided by any government agencies. He also submitted legal documents attesting to the fact that no law in China criminalizes Falun Gong or labels it as a cult and that the ban on Falun Gong books was lifted in 2011.

Gao refused to accept the legal documents and the lawyer’s request to drop the case. He proceeded to indict Ms. Yang at an unknown time.

The Yintai District Court heard the case on August 29, 2024. Ms. Yang’s brother and sister were not allowed to attend the trial or represent her as non-lawyer defenders. After the trial, the police immediately took Ms. Yang out of the courthouse. She was sentenced to six and a half years on July 8, 2025.

Tortured and Force-Fed in Custody, Heilongjiang Man Sentenced to 6 Years

Mr. Feng Guoqing, around 59, from Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested on December 4, 2024. Over 200,000 yuan in cash was confiscated from his home. As he refused to cooperate with the interrogation and went on a hunger strike, the police removed his clothing, restrained him on a bed in a spread-eagle position, and force-fed him. He was forced to relieve himself on the bed. He suffered failure in both kidneys as a result.

Torture reenactment: Tied up in a spread-eagle position

Mr. Feng appeared in the Nancha County Court on June 20, 2025. His lawyer was informed on July 5 that he was sentenced to six years and fined 10,000 yuan. The paper currency printed with Falun Gong messages that was confiscated from him was expropriated.

Sentencing of the Elderly

Arrested in a Police Sweep, 80-Year-Old Jilin Man Latest Confirmed to Be Jailed

Mr. Li Decheng, 80 and of Dehui City, Jilin Province, was arrested during a police sweep on February 25, 2023. The police confiscated from his home more than 90 Falun Gong books, a desktop computer, two laptops, two printers, two paper cutters, three cell phones, two music players, copy paper, flash drives, and other personal belongings. They also took the 100 yuan in cash from his wife, Ms. Ma Shuhua’s purse.

Mr. Li was released on bail after a few days and later sentenced to four years by a local court. He has been admitted to the Tiebei Prison in the capital of Changchun.

Seven other practitioners arrested during the same police sweep have also been sentenced, with terms ranging from ten months to seven years.

73-Year-Old Shandong Man Sentenced to 1.5 Years

Mr. Li Zhengxun, 73, of Qingdao City, Shandong Province, was arrested on March 5, 2025, while he was talking to people about Falun Gong. During the required physical exam, Mr. Li was found to have a hernia, a tumor in his heart, and a mass in his abdomen, yet the authorities kept him in detention.

During the trial by the Jimo District Court on May 21, Mr. Li’s lawyer testified against the police for listing his client’s wife as a prosecution witness, even though she didn’t sign the interrogation records. Another witness listed in the indictment didn’t appear in court for cross-examination, and his testimony should not have been admissible.

The Falun Gong informational materials confiscated from Mr. Li’s home were also listed as prosecution evidence against him. Mr. Li pointed out that the General Administration of Press and Publication repealed its ban on the publication of Falun Gong books in 2011. His lawyer followed up, saying that the materials were Mr. Li’s lawful assets and caused no harm to anyone or society at large.

Prosecutor Wan Jun alleged that Falun Gong is a cult, and Mr. Li reminded her that no enacted law in China criminalizes Falun Gong or labels it as a cult. He explained how Falun Gong freed him from a mental disorder and gave him his life back. He added that Falun Gong also turned him into a more considerate person. The factory he worked for used coal briquettes for heating in the winter. Other workers were unwilling to move the briquettes from the courtyard to the workshop. Mr. Li did it all by himself during breaks.

Mr. Li was sentenced to 1.5 years on July 3, 2025. He is preparing to file an appeal.

After Being Imprisoned for 5.5 Years, 70-Year-Old Heilongjiang Woman Sentenced to 3 More Years

Ms. Yuan Hongying spent her 70th birthday (February 6, 2025) in police custody because she practices Falun Gong. The day before, she was arrested at a train station in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, while waiting to board a train to Fuyu County in the same province where she lives.

From about 2 p.m. on February 5 to about 3 a.m. the next morning, Ms Yuan was interrogated 4 to 5 times. She was not allowed to sleep the entire night. She experienced dizziness and headaches as a result.

After the interrogation, the police measured Ms. Yuan’s blood pressure, and the systolic pressure read 180 mmHg (when a normal range is 120 or lower). Yet they still took her to the Harbin City Second Detention Center for criminal detention. Her blood pressure remained high, and the skin on her ankles festered. She also needed help getting up after using the restroom.

The Harbin City Railway Transportation Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for Ms. Yuan on March 13, 2025. She was sentenced to three years in prison in mid-July 2025 by the Harbin City Railway Transportation Court.

71-Year-Old Gansu Man Sentenced to 3.5 Years, Previously Jailed Twice

Mr. Chen Fanghua, 71, from Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, just stepped out of the door on the morning of July 18, 2024, when several plainclothes officers seized him and took him inside to raid his home. Neither of them showed their IDs.

The Chengguan District Court held a hearing on March 21, 2025, without notifying his family. The court-appointed lawyer called his loved ones. They rushed to the courthouse but were barred from attending the trial.

The lawyer notified the family on June 27, 2025, that Mr. Chen was sentenced to three and a half years. When his family asked to see the verdict, the lawyer said he did not have one to show them. Mr. Chen hasn’t been allowed to see his family since his arrest.

Mr. Chen’s latest persecution was preceded by multiple arrests over the years for his faith. He was sentenced to three years in 2008 and fourteen months in 2017.

Persecution of Families

Having Lost Three Family Members to the Persecution of Falun Gong, Tianjin Woman Gets 3 Years

Ms. Huang Xiuying, 50, of Tianjin, was arrested around September 20, 2024, for distributing Falun Gong informational materials. A local court tried her in March 2025 without notifying her family. She was later sentenced to three years and was set to be admitted to the Tianjin Women’s Prison in August 2025 to serve time.

Ms. Huang is not the only one in her family affected by the persecution of Falun Gong. Her husband, Mr. Yan Jinyou, took up Falun Gong in 2000 after he was diagnosed with incurable late-stage lung cancer. He gradually recovered, but the relentless police harassment eventually worsened his condition. He died in 2013.

Ms. Huang’s mother and two siblings were also repeatedly targeted for their shared faith. Her older sister, Ms. Huang Xiuyun, died in 2024. Their 84-year-old mother, Ms. Li Sufen, who had been living away from home to avoid persecution, was grief-stricken and became bedridden. She died three months later, around December 2024.

Ms. Huang’s elder brother was also arrested four times for practicing Falun Gong. He is still living in displacement to avoid further persecution.

Having Lost Her Mother to the Regime’s Persecution, Hebei Woman Jailed a Second Time

Ms. Zhang Ximei, 58, a retired employee of a transformer factory in Baoding City, Hebei Province, was arrested in a police sweep on April 9, 2024. She was tried by the Gaoyang County Court on November 13, 2024, and sentenced to 3.5 years with a 10,000-yuan fine at an unknown time.

Ms. Zhang’s mother, Ms. Yang Xianxiang, was also subjected to long-term harassment for practicing Falun Gong. While Ms. Zhang was serving another prison term following her arrest in 2019, Ms. Yang was so worried about her that her health declined quickly. She passed away in March 2024, one month before Ms. Zhang’s latest arrest.

To fulfill Ms. Yang’s wish, Ms. Zhang gave some of her Falun Gong keepsakes to other practitioners, which became her “crime” when the police found out about it.

Widowed in the Persecution of Falun Gong, Henan Woman Secretly Sentenced to 3.5 Years After Latest Arrest

After over one year of detention, Ms. Bian Xiao’e, a 55-year-old Jiaozuo City, Henan Province resident, was sentenced to 3.5 years for her faith in Falun Gong. She had been admitted to the Xinxiang Women’s Prison in June 2025 to serve time.

Ms. Bian has been repeatedly targeted after the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution in 1999. She was given two forced labor camp terms totaling three years between 2000 and 2009. She was also held in a brainwashing center for a month at an unknown time.

On March 27, 2014, Ms. Bian’s son, Mr. Bian Bo (also a Falun Gong practitioner), was arrested while on his way to host a wedding in a neighboring county. He was later sentenced to three years and taken to the Zhengzhou Prison. His sentencing dealt a heavy blow to his father, who soon fell ill and died in September 2015.

While still mourning her husband’s death, Ms. Bian was arrested on December 8, 2016. She was detained for 16 months and released on April 7, 2018. During her detention, Ms. Bian’s mother, in her 80s, missed her so much that she cried almost every day. The police continued to harass Ms. Bian and monitor her daily after her release.

68-Year-Old Sister Persecuted to Death, 81-Year-Old Brother Sentenced to Five Years

Two siblings in Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province, were arrested in August 2024 for their shared faith in Falun Gong. The 68-year-old sister died in custody one month later, and her 81-year-old brother was sentenced to five years in prison in June 2025.

Mr. Wang Jianying, a retired government employee, and his sister, Ms. Wang Yuying, were arrested on August 7 and 8, 2024, respectively. After 15 days at the Gongzhuling City Lockup, they were transferred to the Gongzhuling City Detention Center.

Around September 20, 2024, Ms. Wang died in the detention center. The authorities offered her family 30,000 yuan in exchange for their silence regarding her suspicious death. Her loved ones consulted a lawyer and were told that no one could help them win a lawsuit, as the police would block all channels if they tried to collect evidence. Her family also realized that even if there were witnesses who saw Ms. Wang’s abuse and death, they probably wouldn’t dare to speak up. It’s unclear, though, whether the family accepted the hush-money offer.

Mr. Wang was released on bail around September 24, 2024, after his sister’s funeral. The police continued to harass him on a regular basis. They also installed a surveillance camera at their neighbor’s home, facing Mr. Wang’s front door.

The police submitted Mr. Wang’s case to the local procuratorate. He was taken to the local court in a wheelchair on June 5, 2025. He acted as his own lawyer and entered a not guilty plea. Days later, the court held a virtual sentencing hearing and gave him five years. He was taken to the Gongzhuling City Prison on July 1, 2025. His 75-year-old wife is now left at home to fend her herself, as their only son died in 2023.

Heilongjiang Woman Sentenced to Prison and Sister Dies in Custody Two Weeks Later

After living away from home for six years to avoid being persecuted, Ms. Wang Shuxiang, a 60-year-old Jixi City, Heilongjiang Province, resident, was arrested in February 2025. When she appeared in the Jidong County Court on June 9, 2025, the presiding judge told her that she would get a much lighter sentence if she pleaded guilty. She insisted that she didn’t violate any law by practicing Falun Gong or telling people about it. Her lawyer also entered a not-guilty plea for her. The judge sentenced her to two years with a 10,000-yuan fine on July 3, 2025.

Ms. Wang Shuxiang

On July 19, two weeks after Ms. Wang’s sentencing, her younger sister, Ms. Wang Shuzhi, died at the Jixi City Detention Center, less than two months after her latest arrest for practicing Falun Gong.

The younger Ms. Wang was arrested on May 22, 2025. As the Jixi City Detention Center refused to admit her initially due to her poor health, the police held her at an unknown location and successfully had the detention center take her a week later. She held a hunger strike to protest the arbitrary detention and was force-fed. She became seriously ill and was hospitalized on July 13, 2025. As soon as she recovered a little, she was brought back to the detention center on July 17, only to die there at 3 a.m. on July 19.
