(Minghui.org) Four residents of Dazhu County, Sichuan Province were sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Peng Zuyin, 61, was sentenced to four years with a 10,000-yuan fine. Ms. Yu Shenghua, 56, was given two and a half years with a 5,000-yuan fine. Ms. She Xingmin was sentenced to two years and three months with a 4,000-yuan fine. Ms. Luo Fuqiong, 58, was given two years but was allowed to serve her time outside of prison. She was also fined 3,000 yuan.
Ms. Yu, Ms. She and Ms. Luo were arrested on the evening of October 13, 2024, while talking to people about Falun Gong at a public plaza. Ms. Peng was arrested the next afternoon, after she hosted a study session of Falun Gong teachings at her rental place. The police raided her home and confiscated her printer and other items. Her three guests, Ms. Zhang Zhanping, 62, Ms. Li Zhongju, and Ms. Liu Yuanbi, were also arrested.
Ms. Yu, Ms. She, Ms. Luo, Ms. Peng, and Ms. Zhang were taken to the Dazhou City Detention Center. Ms. Li and Ms. Liu were soon released.
Ms. Yu, Ms. She, Ms. Luo, and Ms. Peng were tried by the Dazhou City Court on May 15, 2025. They were convicted at an unknown time. It’s not clear whether Ms. Zhang was subjected to prosecution.
Ms. Yu, Ms. She and Ms. Peng were admitted to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison in the capital of Chengdu on August 27, 2025. Ms. Luo was released to serve time at home.
Prior to Ms. Peng’s latest sentencing, she has been arrested and detained multiple times. Her husband, Mr. Hu Yunxiang, an elementary school teacher, was barred from teaching and subjected to frequent harassment and intimidation for his faith in Falun Gong. He died as a result of the persecution on August 23, 2006.
Ms. Zhang was previously sentenced to five years, following an arrest in April 2006 for putting up Falun Gong posters.
