(Minghui.org) The family of an 85-year-old woman in Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province, was kept in the dark of her whereabouts after she was arrested in May 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong. They recently confirmed that Ms. Chen Guifen had been admitted to prison to serve a one-year sentence.
Three officers showed up at Ms. Chen’s home around 7 a.m. on March 18, 2024, and took her to the Fanjiang Road Police Station. At 10 a.m., several people from the local procuratorate came and accused her of filing complaints against them (details of the complaints weren’t clear). They threatened to sentence her to prison. Ms. Chen was forced to sign some paperwork without being told what was on it. She was released at an unknown time.
Three women from the Liuhe Community harassed Ms. Chen at home at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on March 21, 2024.
Ms. Chen was arrested again on May 22, 2024, and taken to the Fanjiang Road Police Station by two armed officers. They forced her to sign more paperwork and said if she wanted to practice Falun Gong, she could do it outside of China, but not in China.
Ms. Chen’s family was never given any updates about her since. They only learned from an insider recently that she had been admitted to Division 5 in the Chengdu City Women’s Prison to serve a one-year term. Other details about her prosecution aren’t clear.
This isn’t the first time that Ms. Chen has been targeted for her faith. She previously had her home ransacked on March 22, 2016, by Tianpeng Town Police Station officers; all her Falun Gong books were confiscated.
Six Fanjiang Road Police Station officers broke into Ms. Chen’s home on August 14, 2020. She held her copy of Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong, tightly to her chest as four officers tried to take it from her. They then grabbed her hands and feet, dragged her to the police car, and took her to the police station. She was released around 6 p.m. Two weeks later, her hands still had marks where the officers pinched her.
While riding a bus in 2021, Ms. Chen told the only other passenger facts about Falun Gong, without knowing that he was a plainclothes officer. While she was cooking dinner that evening, a group of police officers came and arrested her and her neighbor, who happened to be visiting her. Her neighbor was released around midnight, and Ms. Chen was let go around 5 a.m.
Over ten police officers and medical personnel came to harass Ms. Chen again on August 2, 2022. They took photos of her and verbally abused her. One nurse forcibly measured her blood pressure, which was dangerously high. Another one threatened her not to go out and about to [talk to people about Falun Gong] during the pandemic.
