(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old man in Xuchang City, Henan Province, was admitted to the Zhengzhou Prison in the same province to serve an eight-year term because he practices Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
Mr. Bai Hongmin was arrested on June 19, 2024, by officers from the Jingba Road Police Station. He was first held at a brainwashing center in Hebi City and ordered to renounce Falun Gong. While he was detained, the police also harassed his family and caused them tremendous mental distress.
Mr. Bai was transferred to the Zhengzhou City Third Detention Center around November 2024. He was tried by the Xinzheng City Court on February 26, 2025, sentenced to eight years and fined 20,000 yuan. He appealed to the Zhengzhou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict around September 2025. It is unclear when he was transferred to prison.
Mr. Bai, a former employee of the Xuchang City Agricultural Bureau, has been repeatedly arrested in the past 26 years because he practices Falun Gong. He was given three years of forced labor following an arrest in January 2001 and had his term extended by one year because he held firm to his faith. After he was arrested on June 28, 2011, he was sentenced to four years and admitted to the Pingdingshan Prison in late December that year. He was later moved to the Xinmi Prison to finish his term.
Mr. Bai was brutally tortured while he was detained in the labor camp and during his first prison term. See the second related report for details of his past persecution.
