(Minghui.org) A man in Hechuan District, Chongqing, is serving a three-year-nine-month term at the Yongchuan Prison for his faith in Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.
The wrongful conviction of Mr. Pu Yuansheng, around 68, stemmed from his arrest in October 2023. The police discovered Falun Gong materials in the Liujiaping region (within Nan’an District) and spotted Mr. Pu passing by that place in their surveillance videos. They thus suspected him of distributing the materials and took him into custody.
During the physical exam required for continued detention, Mr. Pu was found to have colon cancer and was taken to the hospital for surgery. He was then released on bail.
The Tianwen Police Station twice searched Mr. Pu’s home while he was on bail and questioned where he got the materials and whom he had contacted. They also dispatched agents to monitor him. For a period of time, people were staked outside his apartment building every day.
The Nan’an District Police Department lifted Mr. Pu’s bail in October 2024 and put him on residential surveillance. In December 2024 and January 2025, the police twice took him for a physical exam to see if he was well enough to be detained again.
Around February 20, 2025, a police officer called Mr. Pu ordered him to report to the Tianwen Police Station on February 25. He went on the said day and was arrested on arrival. He was taken for a physical exam and put in the Nan’an District Detention Center.
A local court sentenced Mr. Pu to three years and nine months around November 2025. Other details of his prosecution remain unknown.
This is not the first time that Mr. Pu has been targeted for his faith since the Chinese Communist Party launched a nationwide campaign against Falun Gong in July 1999. He served a seven-year prison term and two forced labor terms totaling three years in the early years of the persecution. After that, he was arrested many more times. He was held at a brainwashing center for one month in 2016 and at a detention center for one year between 2018 and 2019. He was arrested again in February 2021 and detained for five days. In 2022, he was put in the detention center again for distributing Falun Gong informational materials.
