Zeel Ahir (Screenshot courtesy of NTD)

Zeel Ahir, council member of the city of Artesia, saw Shen Yun in Long Beach on February 8.

“It’s been such an experience. I can’t even begin to tell you. I think I started crying when I opened up the program [book]. And I think that the efforts made to have such a beautiful concept be displayed in the form of art is commendable,” Ms. Ahir said.

“I’m honored to be here. I just was in awe the whole time. You can see concepts like purity, punctuality, discipline, and grace all being depicted in such a beautiful way,” Ms. Ahir said.

With an Indian background, Ms. Ahir understands the importance of “preserving the ancient culture because there’s a wholeness within those principles, within the practice.”

Ms. Ahir expressed that in order to spread a culture, it has to be understood and accepted. “It only has to be followed when it’s understood, in all honesty, by that person. So when somebody is trying to showcase in such a beautiful way and trying to preserve the culture in that manner very gracefully, I have nothing but the best wishes. Even I want to preserve Chinese culture at this point,” she shared.

“The singer who sang about the creator being the savior—I thought that was very powerful. I will say that yes, the creator can save us, but creativity can heal us as we see through this show.

“So that’s something I gathered from that performance, which I think [is] ever lasting for me.

“If the mission is to remind ourselves that divinity is within us, then all we have to do is remember. Thank you so much for sharing with us… I would say you’re doing God’s work, so continue. And, if there’s anything that we can support, please reach out,” she said.

“Very Powerful”

Dr. Chia Yu Teng, Diamond Bar City Councilman, saw Shen Yun in Long Beach on February 8.

“I feel very in awe!” he said, “Once the music for the first piece began, I felt, ‘Wow!’ This was very powerful.”

“The background music combines Chinese and Western instruments. The sound effects were great. I also feel that these dancers were outstanding. They were very talented and well-trained.

“(Shen Yun) helps us distinguish right from wrong, good from evil. I think this is the most important,” he said.

“I’m Really Inspired by the Show”

California State Assembly Member Tri Ta saw Shen Yun in Long Beach on February 6 and presented a resolution to the company.

“If you read about Chinese traditional history, it’s about compassion, it’s about kindness, it’s about how to help other people,” he said.

“So I’m really inspired by the show. Shen Yun Performing Arts is amazing. I love it. I love the way all the performers, they tell the story, and they share the culture, like family values, like compassion. That’s amazing.

“We are all aware that Falun Gong was harassed by the Chinese communist government for more than 20 years. I think the world is aware of that. I am aware of that, and I really appreciate Falun Gong continuing to raise that awareness and continuing to tell the story to the world about what is happening in China right now. I really love all the stories. So the show is, I think, [an] opportunity for Shen Yun performers to revive Chinese traditional culture, and that’s a beautiful culture. I love that,” he said.

“Absolutely Stunning”

Rene Trevino (Screenshot courtesy of The Epoch Times)

Mayor Rene Trevino of Artesia saw Shen Yun in Long Beach on February 6.

“This is an amazing show,” he said.

“The dancing, the music, the choreography are absolutely stunning. Everything is very well put together.

“The choreography really makes you feel a part of everything. The way it’s put together... It truly conveys a peaceful message. It’s a message of unity, it’s a message of divine holiness. There’s a lot of peace that comes through in the performances being presented tonight.

“In our current society, if we truly took care of one another, looked out for each other, and embraced each other, the world would be a much better place. Society would be more peaceful, more progressive, and better in every way.

“Southern California is a very diverse community—a true melting pot. Los Angeles County has about 11 or 12 million people. This type of show brings unity, peace, cooperation, and collaboration. The dancers and choreography really highlight that. If we could take even a small glimpse of that and apply it to our daily lives, things would be much better.

“Congratulations on 20 years of success! Conveying a great message and bringing joy to people—what you present is very peaceful, very calming. Congratulations on 20 remarkable years, and best wishes for another 20 to come,” Mr. Trevino said.

“Everyone Must See This”

Dorothy Pemberton (Screenshot courtesy of NTD)

Dorothy Pemberton, a city councilwoman for the City of Downey, saw Shen Yun in Long Beach on February 6.

“This performance was truly phenomenal—a deeply cultural experience,” she said. “Everyone must see this. It was really, really wonderful.”

Although she had heard about Shen Yun for many years, this was the first time Ms. Pemberton decided to attend.

“I honestly don’t know why I waited so long,” she said. “I felt a calling to come on my own today, and I’m so glad I did.”

“It’s incredibly engaging,” she said. “I loved the live orchestra—the musicians were beautiful. The dancers, the costumes, and the 3D backdrop—even the humor woven into it—it was amazing.”

“I’ve seen many dance performances and symphony concerts,” she said, “but the 3D backdrop effects here truly blew me away.”

“The show reflects China’s history—what happened in the past and what’s happening today—and it highlights a sense of positivity,” she said. “It also reflects where we are today and the situations we face. It reminds us to stay positive and always keep goodness and kindness in our hearts.”

Ms. Pemberton also praised Shen Yun’s artists for their perseverance over the past two decades in preserving and promoting traditional culture.

“They refuse to give in to the communist regime,” she said. “They want to live according to their traditional culture. Keeping that culture alive, making it viable, and raising awareness—especially among young people—is extremely important, just as we strive to do here in our own country.”

Texas Mayor: “You Leave Feeling So Much Better”

Lori Quinn (Screenshot courtesy of NTD)

Mayor of Tomball Lori Quinn saw Shen Yun in Cypress on February 1.

“This is my seventh time to see Shen Yun. The first time I saw it in Houston, I fell in love with the story and the pageantry, and the beauty of this performance. It’s very exciting but it’s peaceful. So yes, this is my seventh time,” she said.

“It’s a lovely afternoon, and you leave feeling so much better.

“I wish that the freedoms that China used to have, in order to worship and be together, [will return]. China is a great country. Beautiful people.

“The orchestra and the instruments are able to recreate danger, happiness, peace, and enlightenment with what they have. And it’s amazing, the talent that is in the orchestra. And that’s why and how the dancers perfectly time every step—they do hard work. I can imagine the hours of practice that it takes. But keep doing it because it really does pay off with the audience. We really appreciate it. Thank you,” she said.
