A 67-year-old man in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, died in May 2025, less than two years after he completed a three-term prison sentence for practicing Falun Gong.

Mr. Jin Weifeng told his family that he was forced to take unknown drugs throughout his prison term even though he did not have any health issues. The local street committee harassed him at home once a week after he was released in December 2023, causing him and his family tremendous pressure. He died in May 2025.

Details of Arrest and Abuse in Prison

Mr. Jin had just returned home from grocery shopping on the morning of December 16, 2020, when an officer from the Dongting Police Station showed up. The officer called in several more agents, and they arrested Mr. Jin and his wife, who did not practice Falun Gong. The police raided the couple’s home and confiscated Falun Gong books, a computer, and other personal belongings.

The police drew Mr. Jin’s blood at the police station. The next day, they took him to the Qingling Detention Center and released his wife.

The detention center never allowed Mr. Jin’s family to visit him. They learned in early October 2022 that he had been admitted to the Fanjiatai Prison on May 16 that year to serve a three-year term.

Upon his release, Mr. Jin told his family that the prison claimed that he had diabetes and forced him to take unknown drugs every day. He spit out the pills occasionally when no one was looking. The guards also force-fed him the drugs from time to time.
