(Minghui.org) A 36-year-old woman in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, is facing prosecution because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhang Huiqiong’s ordeal stemmed from her arrest on December 23, 2021, by officers from the East Lake High-tech Development Zone Domestic Security Office and the Huashan Police Station. She was released on bail on January 8, 2022.
The police summoned Ms. Zhang in February 2022. To avoid further persecution, she was forced to live away from home. She was put on the CCP’s wanted list. The police and local community workers frequently harassed Ms. Zhang’s family and threatened to sentence her to three years, even if they couldn’t find her.
Since November 2023, Ms. Zhang’s father, Mr. Zhang Linhua, filed multiple complaints with local authorities to protest the persecution and demanded that the case against his daughter be dismissed. He did not receive a response.
Both Ms. Zhang and Mr. Zhang were arrested on November 7, 2025, by the Xinzhou Police Station officers. While Mr. Zhang was released that evening, Ms. Zhang was admitted to the Wuhan City First Detention Center the next day. The East Lake High-tech Development Zone Procuratorate denied the police’s request to approve her arrest, and she was released on bail on November 21.
On December 5, 2025, Mr. Zhang received paperwork from the Xinzhou Police Station, indicating that they were building a case against him.
Ms. Zhang was summoned by the East Lake High-tech Development Zone Procuratorate on March 30, 2026. As soon as she left the procuratorate, she was arrested by officers from the East Lake High-tech Development Zone Police Station. The prosecutor issued a formal arrest warrant for her at noon and she was sent to the Wuhan City First Detention Center shortly after.
