(Minghui.org) I am a medical worker who began practicing Falun Dafa in early 1999. However, just a few months later, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Dafa. The persecution didn’t sway me; on the contrary, it strengthened my resolve. I told myself, “I must persevere.” The CCP’s smear campaigns and slander of Falun Dafa had poisoned so many people. I made up my mind to do well by presenting the beauty of Dafa to people and helping them understand the truth about this wonderful practice.
Treating Patients Like Family
Before practicing Falun Dafa, I was a reserved person who wasn’t comfortable talking with others. Through studying Zhuan Falun, I came to understand that I should treat everyone like they were part of my family. Every day at work, I did my best to consider each patient’s needs and share their concerns. To better prepare for night shifts, I took afternoon naps so I could perform my duties more effectively without feeling drowsy.
After shift handover each night, I visited the wards to check on patients, offer comfort, and encourage them to overcome their illnesses. I remembered each patient’s condition.
Some family members of critically ill patients were often exhausted. When I was on duty, I helped care for the patients so the family could take a break. Both patients and their families sensed that I was different from others. When they expressed their gratitude to me, I calmly told them that I practice Falun Dafa and follow my Master’s teachings to be a good person.
After the brutal persecution began, I felt I should tell the world that Falun Dafa is good and that Master has done nothing wrong. Holding firmly to this righteous thought, I rationally described the persecution to all the staff, patients, and any family members I encountered. I used my medical knowledge to expose the flaws in the Tiananmen Square self-immolation hoax. I helped many people, including the entire department staff, withdraw from the CCP and its affiliated organizations.
With Master Li’s blessings and through diligent cultivation, my mental resilience and technical skills improved dramatically. On several occasions, I handled emergencies in an orderly, composed manner, earning recognition from hospital managers and helping dispel any prejudices toward Falun Dafa.
I also upheld high moral standards in line with Dafa. I did not fight for personal gain and accepted all assigned tasks. On one occasion, another department was short-staffed and someone from our department was needed to cover a shift there. The work in that department was more demanding, so many of my colleagues made excuses not to voluntarily work there. When the manager asked me, I accepted without hesitation and covered a night shift.
I treated patients in that department as I always do—with patience and kindness. I inquired about their conditions, expressed concern, encouraged them, and offered assistance. During the shift handover, I provided a detailed report on each patient’s condition, which surprised the staff, who looked at me approvingly.
The next day, when the head of that department saw me, she told me that the staff and patients in her department had praised me. She knew I practiced Falun Dafa, so I took the opportunity to share more about its core values. She asked me some questions about cultivation, and I explained in detail. Then she asked, “Can you be a member of our department?” I smiled and said I’d respect management’s arrangements. My department head also told me about the praise from patients in the other department.
I had a patient whose family member was in charge of the agency that was persecuting Falun Dafa. Yet I treated this patient with the same kindness, offering encouragement, care, and assistance until the moment he reached the end of his life. This family member told my supervisor that he was deeply moved by my actions. I also advised him not to participate in the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in the future.
Much later, I ran into him on the street. He was excited to see me and shared the good news that he had been transferred to a new position. He laughed like a child, and told me, “I can finally eat and sleep properly again.” I was really happy for him.
His transformation impressed me and boosted my confidence in awakening more people to the goodness of Dafa through compassion.
Taking Personal Gain Lightly
I’ve never accepted money or gifts from patients. When some of them brought me large quantities of expensive, high-quality fruit to express their sincere gratitude, I would set aside one or two pieces to show respect for their kindness. Then I returned the rest, told them about Falun Dafa, and helped them renounce their CCP memberships.
One patient was a well-known local figure who came in for treatment from time to time. He thanked the staff members working with him, including me, with gift cards. After sharing this with a fellow practitioner, I returned the money to him by adding the same amount to his hospital account. Then I gave the receipt to the patient’s wife, explained that I practiced Falun Dafa, that caring for patients was simply my duty, and that I couldn’t accept gifts. I also shared facts about Falun Dafa with her.
She said she had read the Dafa books before but had stopped practicing after believing the CCP’s slanderous lies on TV. I told her that continuing the practice would benefit her husband’s treatment. She thanked me, adding, “You truly are a good disciple of Master.”
Another celebrity patient also gave us gift cards. I returned the money the same way. He was surprised that I had refused gifts all these years. I explained that I practiced Falun Dafa. He told the friends beside him that one of his relatives also practices Falun Dafa, and that practitioners are all good people. He then began chatting with me about Falun Dafa. His friends, who knew little about Dafa before, were initially confused, then gradually came to understand, and finally showed approval.
When he was discharged, he treated our entire department to a meal at a high-end restaurant. During the meal, he stood up, raised his glass, and toasted me personally, saying, “Upholding the truth requires courage.” I thanked him for his acknowledgment and support. Everyone present knew exactly what he meant by “truth.” He had positioned himself righteously in just a few words.
Becoming Fully Considerate of Others
One day, a button fell off my work uniform, so I got the box containing needles and thread to sew it back on. When I opened the box, two spools of thread fell out that were tangled together. I thought about snapping the threads because untangling them would take time and be a hassle.
However, I recalled a feature article on the Minghui website about Master constantly picking up nails from areas under construction or from the roads, sorting them, and handing them over to the warehouse.
I knew I should untangle the threads. Holding a spool in each hand, I shook them in the air. To my astonishment, the tangled threads separated on their own. Shortly afterward, I realized I had let go of my selfish thought and was considering others and their needs. Because of this sincere intention, Master gave me a supernatural power. Master was right by my side. For the rest of the afternoon, I felt immensely happy, like a child.
Last fall, the window frame in my office broke, so the window didn’t close properly. It would sometimes blow open, disrupting my work. My colleague offered to look at it before calling Maintenance. I held the window up for her. She probably didn’t see my hand and slammed the window shut. I let out a cry of pain. She quickly reopened the window. My middle finger was bleeding badly. She wanted to take a closer look at my fingers, but I brushed her off kindly and asked her to get a repairman.
At the moment my finger was crushed, I distinctly felt something cold being drawn from my heart. The tip of my middle finger was badly bruised. I realized that Master had helped me resolve a great deal of resentment through the accident and had borne most of the injury for me. Otherwise, the damage to my hand would have been severe.
A few days later, my fingernail turned black, and my son noticed it. I told him what had happened. He asked whether that colleague knew how badly my finger was injured. I replied no and didn’t want her to blame herself, because she hadn’t done it on purpose. I surprised myself by not harboring any resentment, anger, or a feeling of injustice toward her. Instead, I was fully considerate of her. I learned to view the situation from the perspective of the Fa. My finger fully healed in about two months.
I am grateful to Master for teaching me these Fa principles, which transformed me to the point that I considered the needs of someone who had caused me pain before my own needs. In doing so, I felt truly happy. This is the amazing power of Falun Dafa.
I tell myself to always be considerate of others, whether I’m parking my bicycle, driving on narrow roads, or using a crosswalk. As a Falun Dafa practitioner, I must live up to this title and serve as a role model for future generations.
