Taipei, Taiwan: People From All Walks of Life Say No to the CCP’s Persecution of Falun Gong During Candlelight Vigil

(Minghui.org) From Europe to North America, from Australia to Asia, Falun Gong practitioners have been peacefully resisting the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution for 27 years, since July 1999. Their perseverance continues to draw attention to freedom of belief, human rights, and justice.

This commitment was once again showcased on July 25, 2026, at the Taipei City Government Civic Plaza during a rally followed by a candlelight vigil. On this summer night, hundreds of candles slowly flickered as Falun Gong practitioners from northern Taiwan solemnly mourned their fellow practitioners from mainland China who had died as a result of the suppression, for upholding their faith.

Politicians, medical experts, lawyers, and scholars spoke in turn during the event, condemning the CCP’s crimes against humanity in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. They called for legislation to combat cross-border repression, stop the persecution, and safeguard human rights and freedom.

Chairman of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association: Peaceful Efforts for 27 Years

“Twenty-seven years ago today, the CCP’s lies and persecution were rampant; twenty-seven years later, we are still here,” said Professor Hsiao Sung-shan, chairman of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, during the rally.

Hsiao pointed out that on July 20, 1999, former CCP leader Jiang Zemin launched a brutal and systematic campaign against Falun Gong. Thousands of practitioners were tortured, and some were even killed due to the practice of forced organ harvesting. Despite the long, raging storm, however, Falun Gong practitioners have not been defeated. Instead, they continued sharing the benefits of Falun Gong in more than 100 countries throughout the world while opposing the persecution.

“Faced with immense suffering, we have always upheld Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and persevered in spreading the facts in a peaceful manner,” Hsiao continued. He emphasized that even in the face of the CCP’s cross-border repression in recent years, it has not shaken the practitioners’ determination. In fact, practitioners’ efforts have awakened more and more forces of justice.

City Councilor: Pushing for Legislation Against Cross-Border Repression

Hung Chien-yi, a Taipei City Councilor, said that the CCP once threatened to eliminate Falun Gong within three months. “Twenty-seven years have passed and Falun Gong practitioners still adhere to the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. This is truly remarkable,” he said.

“According to Minghui.org, more than 5,000 Falun Gong practitioners have lost their lives in the persecution. If victims of forced organ harvesting are included, the actual number of victims may be even higher,” Hung continued. Regarding the CCP’s cross-border suppression, he stated that he proposed a motion in the Taipei City Council to oppose this, hoping for support from both the ruling and opposition parties to defend democracy and human rights. He also expressed his continued support for Falun Gong, and said, “Let’s work together and let the sunlight illuminate the darkness!”

City Councilor: Standing Together in the Face of Persecution

“There is no reason in the world to allow totalitarian regimes to persecute people and democratic countries at will. Faced with the persecution and threats from the CCP, we will unite together in the spirit of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance,” said Taipei City Councilor Chang Wen-chieh.

Chang said that she would do her best to spread the facts, share Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance in her community, and educate children about the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong and the tragedy of organ harvesting. She hopes that more people will work together to stop the persecution soon.

Taiwan Statebuilding Party Secretary-General: Totalitarianism Cannot Destroy Faith

“Totalitarian violence may destroy one’s body, but it can never destroy the soul and humanity’s upright values!” said Ma Yi-hsiang, secretary-general of the Taiwan Statebuilding Party, in his speech at the rally.

Ma pointed out that the CCP’s long-term persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, including forced organ harvesting, has long constituted crimes against humanity. This suppression is not an isolated incident; the CCP’s hand is extending overseas and into Taiwan through cross-border repression, digital surveillance, and draconian laws such as the Ethnic Unity and Progress Law. The CCP is attempting to turn the entire world into its prison and cage.

He called on the Taiwanese government and the international community to actively prevent the communism infiltration. Ma said he would stand with Falun Gong practitioners until the day the CCP’s totalitarian regime collapses.

Head of Lion Film & Television Culture: Twenty-Seven years of Dedication to Spreading the Facts

“In the 76 years since the CCP came to power, it has spent nearly a third of that time persecuting its own people and persecuting Falun Gong. But Falun Gong has not been defeated, and we have stood firmly here for 27 years,” said Guan Jianzhong, general manager of Lion Film and Television Culture Co., Ltd.

Guan said that the CCP mobilized China’s entire state apparatus to launch a comprehensive persecution against Falun Gong practitioners who uphold the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. This persecution has not only failed to break practitioners, but has also awakened many people’s consciences.

“If it weren’t for Falun Gong practitioners’ continuous exposure of the truth over the past two decades, this Nazi-style atrocity might have been covered up by the CCP,” Guan explained. “Falun Gong practitioners are telling the facts, and we hope more people will understand what is going on.”

Doctor: We Cannot Remain Silent About the Persecution That is Happening

“Not talking about it will not make the persecution disappear. So we should not only talk, but also take the initiative to stand up and become the side of justice, kindness, and integrity in the world,” cardiac surgeon Wu Hsin-tai said during the rally.

Wu pointed out that the CCP uses its authoritarian power to persecute innocent people, and even extends its reach into organ trafficking and diplomacy.

Faced with the facts, and external suppression or suspicion, Wu emphasized that these setbacks should not become obstacles, but rather strengths for everyone to uphold Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. She stated that the spirit of Falun Gong practitioners in their 27 years of unwavering commitment to their principles and resistance against tyranny is a testament to kindness and morality. She expressed her commitment to continuing to stand up and work with everyone to safeguard justice and conscience.

Lawyer: Only by Continuing to Spread the Facts Can the Persecution Be Stopped

“Speaking the truth is our greatest weapon. As long as we continue to spread the truth tirelessly, we will eventually see the day when the CCP is dismantled and we see the light again,” lawyer Chen Yi-shen emphasized.

He stated that Falun Gong practitioners’ persistent efforts in clarifying the truth over the past two decades enabled more and more people to recognize the vicious nature of the CCP. Faced with the CCP’s threats to Taiwan and the rest of the world, everyone should continue to spread the facts and jointly safeguard human morality and justice.

Public Support: Being a Good Person is a Source of Strength

A passerby who quietly observed the event said, “Falun Gong is great because being a good person is powerful.”

Mr. Yang who also watched the rally, believes that the CCP’s true nature has not changed at all over the past few decades. He expressed his support for Falun Gong practitioners’ peaceful resistance to the persecution.

Practitioner Huang Chunmei, 73, has been attending events every year to let more people know about Falun Gong. She said, “I have been practicing for nearly 30 years. Not only is my mind at ease and peaceful, but my body is also extremely healthy. Apart from dental fillings, I have almost never had to see a doctor for any other illnesses with my health insurance card.”

Huang believes that the practice, which promotes physical and mental health, has been smeared and persecuted by the CCP’s tyranny, and such disinformation harms the world. That is why telling facts to the public is important. “When a Falun Gong practitioner hands you a flyer, you should read it. Whether you choose to practice or not, please give yourself a chance to understand the truth and choose justice and kindness,” she said.

Business Professional: Standing Up to Tell the Truth is a Responsibility

Shen Peirong, who works in sales, shared her life-changing experience. She recalled that she suffered from chronic insomnia and poor health. It wasn’t until she started practicing Falun Gong and completed the five sets of exercises for the first time that she slept soundly through the night. Her insomnia and ailments disappeared.

Because she personally experienced the despair of being at her wit’s end and tormented by illness, she was able to sense profoundly the rebirth and strength that Falun Gong brought her. Therefore, she could not turn a blind eye to those in China who were persecuted and lost their lives for upholding their belief. “Standing here to speak out for innocent victims and let people know the truth, I feel that, as practitioners, this is our responsibility to society,” she explained.
