We went to the Office of Appeal in Beijing to appeal with the right conferred by the Constitution and to tell the government: "I'm a beneficiary of Falun Dafa, Falun Dafa is good." We were subsequently arrested by the police and detained in labor camps until now.

I have personally seen and experienced many inhuman persecutions of innocent Falun Dafa practitioners detained in the labor camp. I believe it is meaningful for you to know these facts. They are listed below:

Illegal Detention:

Three Falun Dafa practitioners of a county in Sichuan province have been detained at the labor camp for nearly one year without any verdict. The labor camp accepted them knowing it was illegal. One Falun Dafa practitioner at a county in Sichuan province received a "release notice" at the labor camp, but after he signed the notice he was sent back and is still being detained. Seven practitioners of a county in Sichuan province have been detained for their one-year sentence, but have not yet been released.

Physical Torture - Enlacing:

At least two or three torturers would first put on canvas gloves for convenience and to avoid being hurt by the ropes. The Dafa practitioner was forcefully stripped of upper clothes and the body and face was pressed against the filthy ground. The torturers enlaced both arms of the practitioner tightly three times with a thorn rope. Next, two torturers would push the two arms as far as possible towards each other and tightened the rope while stepping onto the arms. Then they would forcefully pull the tied-up arms upward toward the back of the practitioner's neck and fastened them. The thorn rope would stick deeply into the practitioner's flesh and cause the arms to be numb and purple. After such enlacing the arms could not straighten up for a few months and would fester and become infected.

Extort Confession:

There were two jail cells built with boulders, a Dafa practitioner was locked up here for 7 days for refusing to turn in the Teacher's articles. (These two cells were seldom used even for criminals who have committed felonies such as murder or have escaped several times.) The entrance was a very narrow iron gate and it was completely dark inside the cell. One could only grope with hands and feet. It was humid, cold and filthy wherever the hands touched. After groping for a while, it was found that there was a cement table covered with thick dust and this was the bed.

Water was continually seeping onto the bed through stonewall. There was hardly any sound in the cell. In the winter there were no insect chirps and it was just like living in a black cave. It was difficult to tell the time and it was really monotonous and lonesome. Once a dirty old mouse, about a foot in length, squeezed into the cell between the iron bars of the gate but afterwards it seldom came back again. Although it was winter, the practitioner was not allowed to bring a cotton-padded quilt into the cell and every night could only fall half-asleep with a curled up body before being awakened by the chill.

Once another Dafa practitioner was locked in another special cell for practicing the exercises. He was handcuffed to the iron gate for three days and nights. Everyday he was released from the handcuffs only twice so that he could eat. After he finished eating the plain rice and vegetables, he was immediately handcuffed to the cold iron gate again. His hands and feet became swollen from the long time of being handcuffed. He could only urinate inside his trousers and thus his lower body was covered with his urine. After he was released from the cell, three days later, I saw that his whole body was shaking incessantly.

The intention of adopting these tortures was to force us to write a "repentance" and a "warranty."

Twenty-Four Hours Monitoring:

There were an equal number of criminal inmates in every cell where Dafa practitioners were detained. These inmates (drug-users, swindlers and thieves) each were in charge of one Dafa practitioner and took turns monitoring the Dafa practitioners day and night. Even when Dafa practitioners went to the restroom they were still monitored by the inmates. In order to avoid being punished by the wardens, these inmates yelled at practitioners and closely monitored practitioners' actions.

Physical Abuse, Standing and Repenting:

In addition to being forced to drill and run for one hour, do 200 push-ups and frog-leaps 400 meters every day (which was exhausting even for young people), Dafa practitioners were forced to stand and repent for two and a half hours at noon when the other inmates were resting, and for over three hours after dinner. There were quite a few Dafa practitioners in their 60's at the labor camp. These physical abuses and the abominable conditions were destroying their lives and bodies.

Hunger:

The practitioners in the "strictly-controlled team" were in a half-starved state for a long period. They took very few edible oils every day. Every morning they ate about 50 grams of conjee and a steam bun of about 50 grams. At noon they ate plain vegetables and rice. Their dinner was about the same as the breakfast. Every noon on Tuesday and Friday they had a few small pieces of meat. This food was not enough to make up the calories consumed in the physical abuses every day. The police paid only one Yuan RMB each time for their meal that included four meat dishes and four vegetable dishes. They would sell their leftovers at high prices to the detainees; sometimes their toothpicks were still in the leftovers.

Moral Humiliation:

The wardens treated the members in the "strictly-controlled team" like slaves. The procedure of making inquires was as follows: the inmate who was called had to run quickly to the policeman and cross his arms behind the back, squat down in front of the policeman while saying: "I am XX inmate, come up to take your order. I have finished my report and am now waiting for your direction." The policeman could slap him in the face, twist his ears, kick or step on him with leather shoes at will.

A few months ago, one practitioner was slapped in the face by police captain Du Yi because he asked another practitioner, "Where can I buy detergent?" He has had ringing in the ears until now. Falun Gong practitioners were not allowed to talk to each other.

Once the police packed one practitioner into the trunk of a car like luggage and transported him to another place, even though there were seats inside the car. Such inhuman treatment, which could cause suffocation, stirred the practitioners. Captain Du Yi pulled one practitioner by the ear to the outside and beat the practitioner fiercely; he then handcuffed the practitioner and hung him on a basket frame to warn the public. At that time hatchet man Zuo Fujie forcefully kicked the practitioner's ribs with steel-toed shoes. This practitioner could only sleep on one side of his body in the following half month and could not turn his body. Every time he coughed he would suffer enormous pain from contraction of the rib muscles.

The police liked to say: "you should be aware of your status," "you stinking inmates... " The inmates did all the hard, dirty and heavy work, as well as all the farm labor and miscellaneous work like slaves. In addition, they had to polish the shoes and wash the clothes for the police, clean the rooms of the police and serve as servants for the police. The job of the police was to sit on a sofa and give orders, get massages, play chess and poker, eat and drink, beat and curse at inmates, and prevent the inmates from escaping. We had to report to them as many as 19 times everyday.

Spoiled Hatchet Men:

The hatchet man was also called the watchman. The criterions for selecting a watchman were: having committed many wrong doings, having vicious looks and strong bodies, or having personal relations with the police. The hatchet men enjoyed a lot of privileges. They could go to any jailhouse and eat, drink, take, racketeer, and extort money from new inmates at wills. Some hatchet men got all the name brand clothing from extortion. They were unrestrained because the police endowed them the rights of beating, cursing and punishing the inmates.

We were jailed inside the high walls, our ears filled with the yells and curses of police and hatchet men, the sounds of beatings and the loud clanks of the iron gates against the walls. Ironically, on the white walls several big red words were painted: "execute the law and administer in a civilized way."

Because of these evildoings aimed at Dafa practitioners in the labor camp, we herein make three demands to all the personnel in related government units:

  1. Restore the good reputation of our Teacher. (As a person who made outstanding contributions to the people's public welfare, our Teacher should be respected.)
  2. Return the innocence to Falun Dafa. (As a fact, Falun Dafa has improved the spiritual and physical health of over one hundred million people.)
  3. Release all Dafa practitioners who were detained, arrested, put into labor camps or sentenced to jails. (Their appeals accord with the Chinese Constitution.)

Since the personnel of the labor camp have said that they definitely will not deliver our appeal letter to higher authorities and the evildoings still continues, some practitioners have gone on hunger strikes until the authority gives a substantive reply.

We call on all the kind people in the world to discern the truth, support Falun Gong practitioners in China in morality and justice, distinguish between the righteous and the evil, and stand by justice.
