Chen Wen-chia, Vice President of Kainan University, saw Shen Yun in Taipei on December 30.

“When I walked out of the theater,” he said, “it wasn’t just visual amazement that lingered, but also a renewed appreciation for cultural roots and lasting reflections on human kindness and spiritual freedom.”

“The overall experience is a cultural baptism that fuses high artistry with profound spiritual meaning,” said Mr. Chen.

He said that he now truly understands the core appeal of Shen Yun, which has captivated audiences worldwide for nearly two decades.

“It’s not only the precision, unity, and technical difficulty of the movements,” he explained, “but also how classical Chinese dance embodies values such as loyalty, compassion, faith, and courage.”

“The music is richly layered,” he said. “It preserves the elegance and delicacy of Eastern melodies while blending in the grandeur of Western orchestration, giving the dance an even richer emotional dimension.

“In addition, the contrast between historical settings and present-day realities guides audiences to reflect on how conscience and dignity can still be upheld under the pressure and totalitarian rule of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).”

“Shen Yun shows us a path toward truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance, which will lead us toward a better outcome for ourselves,” Mr. Chen said.

“Those rich and beautiful feelings [from watching the performance] are themselves a source of very positive energy.

“In their performance every year, they give us strength to continue to welcome the next challenges in life,” she said.

“The two words, ‘Shen Yun,’ show artistic conception in themselves,” he said.

“If a culture only has the outer look but not the soul, it cannot be truly inherited,” he said. He also explained that Shen Yun guides the audience from what can be seen and elevates them to a spiritual realm that cannot be seen.

Mr. Chen believes that Shen Yun will become a “language of the world” that will guide people to experience the laws and principles of the universe.
