(Minghui.org) Congressman James R. Walkinshaw, representing Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, issued a letter to Falun Gong practitioners in support of religious freedom and human rights on July 21, 2026, as they mark 27 years of protesting the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution.

Congressman Walkinshaw wrote,
“Dear Friends,
“This month marks twenty-seven years since the beginning of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in the People’s Republic of China.
“This anniversary serves as an important opportunity to reflect on the universal values of religious freedom, human dignity, and the fundamental rights that all people deserve, The United States has long stood in support of the freedom of individuals to practice their beliefs peacefully and without fear of discrimination or repression.
“As we reflect on this solemn anniversary, we also recognize the importance of standing in solidarity with all those around the world who continue to face persecution and repression. The international community must remain committed to defending fundamental freedoms, promoting accountability for human rights abuses, and ensuring that the dignity and rights of every person are respected.
“May this solemn anniversary serve as a reminder of our shared responsibility to advance the principles of liberty, human rights, and mutual respect.”
