(Minghui.org) “It’s a dark anniversary for Falun Gong practitioners, not only for the brutalities and injustice of that day in China 27 years ago, but for the ongoing bloodshed that practitioners have suffered at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party since then,” said Rebel Jom, spokesperson for the Falun Dafa Association in Victoria.
She was one of the speakers at a rally in front of the State Library of Victoria on July 18, 2026 to mark the 27th year practitioners have been protesting the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution. Tibetan, Vietnamese, and Uyghur community leaders addressed the rally and condemned the CCP’s persecution and transnational repression. They called for an end to the persecution and that the prisoners of conscience be released. Many people stopped to watch and signed the petition calling for an end to the human rights abuses.

Falun Dafa Association in Victoria: The 27-Year Persecution Continues and Transnational Repression Escalated
Rebel Jom said the persecution continues, “Twenty-seven years later, the persecution of Falun Gong in China persists. Their crime? Practicing Truth-Compassion-Forbearance, values that are cherished in democratic societies around the world. Values that hold societies together. These same values are perceived as a threat to the Chinese Communist regime.”
Ms. Jom said that Falun Gong was introduced to the public in 1992 and quickly spread across China. The CCP launched the persecution in 1999. “Practitioners have since been subjected to torture, unjust incarceration, abduction, rape, homelessness, being retrenched from their jobs and separated from their families. Furthermore, untold numbers have been killed, and their organs extracted to build a booming multi-billion dollar organ transplant industry in China. Many here at this rally today are refugees escaping the brutalities and have been separated from their families for years or decades, fearing to speak out in case their families are harmed back in China. The persecution of Falun Gong in China has been one of the harshest campaigns against a faith group in modern times.”
She continued, “Through the CCP’s United Front Work Department, local consulates, and an extensive network of spies, the CCP aims not only to repress Falun Gong practitioners globally, but also to turn Western governments and media against Falun Gong.
“Over the past month, this transnational repression has sharply escalated. On 1st July, China introduced its Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law, designed to target people and organizations overseas, essentially criminalizing any speech that is not in line with Beijing’s authoritarian regime, on foreign soil. This alarming escalation is a threat not only to Australia’s sovereignty and democratic values, but to the entire global community.” “This new law should be strongly condemned by all, but especially governments around the world.”
She urged the CCP to stop persecuting Falun Gong, Tibetans, Hong Kongers, Taiwanese, and democracy activists, and to end transnational repression, surveillance, and the suppression of religious freedom.

Mr. Tsering said he could imagine what Falun Dafa endured because his people have suffered the same thing. “This cruel atrocity and the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, Tibetan, Uyghurs, and many ethnicities is ongoing. It’s been lot of torture happening to all these people.”
He said, “My grandparents were from Tibet. In 1981 they revolted against the Chinese regime. So they were put in a jail and my grandparents died in the Chinese jail. My parents fled Tibet and went to India. I was born and raised in India.
Talking about the CCP’s persecution and forced organ harvesting, he said, “That’s very horrible. I don’t know how CCP can do organ harvesting. Can you imagine someone who is alive and you’re stealing his organ? That’s the real crime.”

Mr. Duy Quang Nguyen said he’s known practitioners for more than 20 years. He said such a good practice is persecuted because the CCP does not allow people to have a spiritual belief.
Regarding the CCP’s infiltration and transnational repression, he said, “As you know, when they infiltrate in our community, they bring a lot of trouble to our community. We need to protect our community. The Vietnamese community in Australia supports Falun Gong.”

Practitioners held a candlelight vigil in front of the Chinese Consulate on the evening of July 20 to commemorate those practitioners who died in the persecution, and they urged the CCP to end it. As of July 2026, at least 5,359 practitioners have been persecuted to death.
